You know this year has been a bit of a tough one for me, the upside has been that you guys deliver far more than I ever could expect or hope for in terms of sponsorship and goodwill so I am asking for a little bit of a favour here. You guys probably know that I ride the Etape Cymru sportive bike ride every year, (this year it's on Sept 14th), often for Nightingale house hospice. Obviously this year I have far stronger links to NHH, as it is the hospice where my fiancee passed away. This year I got a free place to the Etape, from work, so was planning on just riding for fun, and not raising any money. As it turns out, I am running Tough Mudder on Sept 13th for H4H.... Now as I was planning on just having a free place for the Etape with work, I was hoping to see how I felt on the day after Tough Mudder and dropping out if need be.
BUT, turns out I am reasonably friendly with the fundraising coordinator for NHH on FB, who invited me on the the press release for the Etape Cymru. Long story short, a week later, I was on the front page of the local rag, riding my bike and raising money for Nightingale House Hospice. So there is no backing out. On Sept 13th, I will be running 12 miles over ridiculous, elecrticshocky, icy, muddy obstacles at Tough Mudder. Then the following day I will be riding my bike for 85 miles over the biggest hills in North Wales. Which will probably take longer than the time it took you to read this.
You all know what work H4H does, and I honestly have no words to describe Nightingale House, they are honestly the greatest people on Earth. If I won Euromillions I'd fund them for life. Since Gemma passed, I set up a tribute fund which I'm sure many of my FB friends will have seen, between everyone chipping in, running 10ks, marathons, skydiving, zipwires, charity nights, etc we have raised just shy of £9000: it costs £7200 per day to run the hospice so evry penny is worth it.
So, you have your choice of charities. If you could see your way to sending a spare quid to either http://www.bmycharity.com/pauladamcook for Help for Heroes, or to www.everydayhero.co.uk/gemmasfund for Nightingale house (and put 'Etape' in the comments) that would go someway towards making up for the lack of time I have to train now that I don't have time to get out on the bike and train what with having to stay at home and watch Disney Jr all weekend.... Regardless, I'm going to go through a weekend of attrition. But it'll be worth it, if I raise some cash for NHH. Totally worth it. I'd do it twice.
Thanks guys,
x
