speed hammer question

Retired tattooed lout!
just realised ive put this in classifieds so mods please move to tech area

Word up yall

ive recently got hold of an 05 speed which has the evolve hammer fitted (but no lpr kit - jus the hammer).

now using the marker the weekend the one thing that did both me (being used to real LP markers) is the ammount of kick it had.

The setup at the time didnt have a volumiser although that was fitted afterward.

I massuming to put a lighter hammer and not change the valve the dwells gotta be turned up which i think is giving me that ammount of kick.

Anybody advise me if this could be it and it the dwell did need turning up to opperate with this lighter hammer, and would the stock hammer make any difference

(this one mainly aimed at John C and Tom allen;))

OK first of all the LPR adjuster is nothing to worry about. It just lets you adjust and read your LPR pressure easier.
The clever part of the newton kit is the valve, not the LPR adjuster or even the hammer really.

If you have the newton hammer but not the valve then really your not going to be able to reduce the kick and keep the performance.

The standard valve requires a certain amount of energy to knock it open properly(for a given operating pressure), therefore a lighter hammer needs to go faster to attain the same energy, resulting in the same kick.

Now if you want to lower the kick you can add a volumiser and increase the dwell, thus lowering the operating pressure.

This means there is less pressure on the other side of the valve, so less energy is needed to knock it open. Which means less kick but you lose some efficiency.

That is your trade off with the standard valve. Kick vs efficiency.

Also remember when you lower the operating pressure too much you will start to starve the gun.

If you want to reduce the kick as low if not lower than a spool valve marker then get the newton valve(be sure to get version 2).

Now you can lower the cocking pressures to get very low kick and you can now tune the operating pressure to get the best efficiency.

There is no trade off, its 2000 shots per 1.1 and pant wettingly low kick.

If you dont have (or plan on getting) the newton valve then you should probably put the standard hammer back on.

It shouldnt really affect the kick or efficiency, but it will increase concistency.

If you want to lower the kick then you will need to up the dwell and add a volumiser.

Then you can lower the LPR pressure as the valve doesnt need to be hit so hard.

No i wanna keep it technically stock as my housemate works for WDP and from what ive gathered the Tech team turn their nose up at outta house upgrades

Volumisers been added - whats the skinny on the hammer? - is it basicly grip the ram and screw off the hammer with all might?

do i need special tools to get to the hammer?

You need the ram removal tool and a bunch of metric allan keys.

Open the breach and remove the bolt.

Remove the backplate

Insert the ram removal tool into the back of the ram and unscrew the ram.

The hammer is held on by a small grub screw, remove the grub screw. It should be locktited so you might need to heat it up.

Now grip the shaft of the ram with something soft so you dont damage it(we wrap a small peice of lead around the shaft, then grip it with molegrips).

Now grip the hammer and unscrew (you will probably damage the hammer removing it, but thats no real problem, its the shaft that you need to look after)
Again there may be locktite holding the hammer onto the shaft.

Put the new hammer on, apply some locktite to the grub screw, then screw in the grub screw nice and tight.

Now put the ram back in the gun, making sure that the breach snaps in place nicely (see manual).

Thats it!
