Hi

Unfortunately there isn't much in the way of woodsball tournaments in the South East; Mayhem South East ran an inter-site walkon tournament last year that grew pretty quickly but the organiser threw a bit of a wobbly after low attendance at a separate walkon event he ran.

Mayhem South East (Longfield, Sidcup/Orpington, Canterbury and a few others) do still cater for casual walkon players and there is a facebook group "MSE Walkon Community" where you can find the dates. Usually one or two events a month, including specialist magfed days.

You could also try the monthly walkon at Mayhem Essex in Abridge, held on the third Sunday of every month. A bit of a drive but well worth it, very well organised with great facilities and some fantastic fields.

If your specifically looking for tournaments, your best bet would be to try out sup'air at either one41 or Bricket Wood (Bricket Wood have also just started running a monthly walkon). A lot of the tournament teams are recruiting and use this forum.

I used to go to play regularly at Mayhem South East, almost every weekend at one point, and have been to Mayhem Essex a few times too. They're both very friendly environments for beginners - introduce yourself to any other walkon player or any staff and they'll help you out, or say hi on their facebook events/groups first to make a couple of contacts before you arrive. Everyone started out new at some point.

Just think of a walkon event as the equivalent of playing with punters/rentals, except that everyone has their own kit (more reliable/consistent, less problems with air running out, less fogging up with your own mask), there's a couple more interesting/complex/challenging games or objectives thrown in and much less in the way of cheating or messing around compared to rentals. Generally a lot of smaller improvements but they make a world of difference to your day.

MSE charge £40 per box for site paint, with no entry fee. Or you can pay £15 entry and you can bring your own paint. Site pyro only. Site paint varies but sometimes can be fairly low quality, lately they have used GI 1* more often than not, which is good enough, but don't be surprised to see Polar Ice (a winter paint) in the summer!

Mayhem Essex charge £55 for entry (£50 in advance), which includes a box of paint. Additional paint is cheaper, something like £25-£30 per box. Site pyro only. I believe they use Sterling Shield paint, which tends to perform fairly well in the woods, but my last visit was a while ago.
