Wrong paradigm. As long as teams rely on current system of sponsorship they have no chance of controlling their own futures except to respond to outside forces. They should'a read the View in PGi 189 and taken it to heart. In the present system it's every man for himself and the system (those doling out the cash) pits team against team and player against player.
Nor should any of this come as any great surprise to any avid reader of PGi 'cus if we dig a little deeper into the archives we discover in PGi 180 a View about sponsorship that included these lines (among many others
) "--Change is coming fast and furious. In many ways Paintball is fragmented right now. That fragmentation has marginalized the attention paid to a lot of players and teams over the past year because of things like changed formats and competing leagues. The arrival of real professional paintball leagues will only accelerate that process. This hasn't caused potential sponsors to throw a wider net of sponsorships to cover all the varied action. It has caused them to focus more narrowly on the sure things..."
And yes, I'm shamelessly touting my own stuff but if I won't, who will? Besides, it just goes to show you that you'll be ahead of the curve if you read PGi every month.
