Hmm..

Well..once apon a time...the electro pneumatic marker was invented...now...SP rekon they did this first, and a short while ago, changed all the Patents they own, so that they could then pounce on anyone making markers with an electronic trigger...which they did.

Details are unknown, but rumour has it, that they demanded $1,000,000 plus $X per unit, for a licence to sell such markers.

So...companies like AGD of Xmag fame and AKA, two companies who made some of the finest markers ever...were forced to cease trading...because of SP.

Other companies signed up.

So Sp, for pure business matters, imposed their "intelectual rights" for teh sake of dominating teh market...as they are not very community spirited.

so what you're saying is now when any company produces an electro marker, be it frame or whatever, they have to pay Smart Parts? (sorry if i got it all wrong, i'm not too bright :D )

I believe that particular litigation is mostly settled and the current legal proceedings were initiated by Dye and include both SP and WDP and were precipitated by SP mostly losing their claimed patent privileges. Prior to that ruling the status quo was more or less a Mexican stand-off between the biggest companies. Afterward, no longer constrained by SP's claims Dye jumped in on behalf of their rights persuant to the Matrix patents (which may, or may not, overlap in the operating systems of the Shocker and Ion.)

There's plenty of threads about it if you want to do a search but mostly after the haters wore down it all turned out to be so tedious and generally uninteresting (and neverending) that it isn't discussed much anymore.

Unless you want to bring it back. :)

hahaha, no, i don't think i want to bring it all back, sound actually quite pointless. Cheers, guys, at least now i know what people are talking about when they run on about that smart parts lawsuit. Anywho, i like smart parts, and i intend to go on liking them, unless, of course, someone from there manages to majorly f**k me off. anywho, as i said, thanks for clearing that up for me. Chris
