I took my Proto SLG '08 out for a test fire today, and it started double-balling. A quick check of what's going on, and my detents appear to have "vanished" - looking down the barrel (marker degassed etc)! Now two questions:

1) How do I get the ball detent cover off? It appears to be some allen key I don't have - and there's no documentation in the manual.

2) Am I right in just ringing up dye and ordering some new detents, or should I be looking at aftermarket stuff?

Correct, there is a small allen key headed screw that needs to be removed from the eye cover to access the ball detents.

Once removed you can either replace them with stock parts or replace them with aftermarket detents. If you had rubber nubbin detents in your slg the cheapest replacement would be spring detents that were stock on the DM6/7.

Thanks for the reply Foot.

I've ordered new detents from Dye (they were cheap enough at 50p a go + VAT). Turns out I need either a 1/16th or 5/64ths allen key. You don't happen to know off the top of your head which one, do you?

I mainly ask that, since neither seem to be helping me!

Sorry, i dont know the size, but be careful when you undo the allen bolt, they are a pain to get out if you round the head or overtighten them.

For future reference: it's a 1/16th allen key. Just been and bought myself a full complement of allen keys (from 1/16 to 1/4 or something plus metric ones as well) and it opens up fine. Must be a dodgy set of allens I've had before.

I've had it open, and there's just simply no detents in there at all! It wasn't new mind you so I'm not going to complain too much.

The new ones should arrive tomorrow, and then I can fit them, and off we go.
