If it's new.....

If it's new chances are it will be stopped. Forget advice about listing it as a gift, customs have clamped down on this. Also under valueing won't work anymore either, as customs will now revalue items they feel do not show a true value on the shipping details. Undervalueing will also screw any insurance on the item, should it get damaged or lost.
Best thing to do is ship it with all the correct details and hope it doesn't get stopped. You will know if it has, as the item will not arrive on time and if tracked will show as being in the U.K. arrival depot for more than 2 days.
Warrenty return may be a bit suspect, unless it is shipped from a paintball buisness in the U.S.
If they suspect you are attempting to dodge duty, then you can be prosecuted as well!!

Warranty return would be if you sent it back for, say a repair, and they are shipping it back to you.
If there is a reciept with it, and you just ship it back normal, customs will normally charge duty on either:
a) the value the package is insured for.
b) a value that they estimate the value to be. Trust me you do not want that option!
Bear in mind, as it is a marker and will look like a gun on any x-ray machine, chances are they will open it and you will maybe have to pay an addition charge for customs to re-ship via parcelforce (normally around the £17.00 mark).

so whats the best option? get him to send it, stick a pb mag in there and just hope for the best? or get him to send it from the company as a warrenty return?

or cud just stick in a letter from him saying to me "hey here is paintball equipment i borrowed and fixed when you came and say thanks for letting me using it" or crap like that?

Post from abroad

Is it true that 2nd hand good get through a lot cheaper? If your friend bought it, and you will be giving him money for it in the future, as long as he uses it in the mean time does that make it second hand? You might want to check this out.

They worked that one out years ago mate... theres now a cap on the value of a gift sent from abroad before being eligible for tax and VAT, think its about £30 or so.

If it was me....

I'd just get your friend to ship it over in a standard UPS box. Leave the invoice in it and keep everything legit. If it gets stopped, it gets stopped.....a bit like speeding really!
At least that way you can be sure that:
a) they won't over value or confinscate it, unless it has full auto on it. And then you are entering a whole new world of prison life!
b) you avoid legal action for attempting to avoid paying duty and taxes.

The warranty thing may work.
The birthday gift won't work.
Leaving the reciept out won't work. They will estimate a value.
Under estimating the value won't work. See above.
Saying it's borrowed won't work.
Saying it's second hand won't work. It will look new!

Ok I said the above won't work, and that is not 100% certain, sometimes gear will get through. It's a lot of money to lose if you upset customs, and customs have heard it all before. None of the above options are that original....are they?
Hope you get it over cheaply and safely.
