Setting up an ion [uk]

set up your desired pressure first - between 120-180psi depending on your internals.

stock: 180psi
bolt: lower it some more (by around 20-40psi)
qev: lower it some more (by around 20psi)

drop your dwell and ROFD to 0.
increase your dwell a few clicks at a time ntil you get a fully cycling marker.
up the dwell by another 5, or 10 for this time of year.

put paint through it, make sure it still cycles fine, if not come up another couple of points on the dwell 'til it does.

it's not mine it is for a mate but he has a
stock ion
grav hopper
20oz co2 tank (soon to be a 3000psi air sysytem)

and that is it i think but he keeps getting drop off on the first few shot's.
he claims that the dwell is not set right but i dont have a clue:confused:

could be the CO2 freezing up the marker or pressure fluctuations rather than drop off - the sooner the switch to air the better!!

if the marker is new the reg will take a while to bed in and so will be a bit inconsistent.

if you try the optimisation above and it still gives drop off at high rates of fire, try lifting the ROFD to slow the cycling and give the chamber longer to recharge the pressure. If

it is still dropping off, try the process again on a slightly higher pressure (don't break 200psi!!) - he may then struggle to get the velocity low enough without needing to cut the pressure back again....

If nothing else the Co2 will cause your reg to freeze causing wild fluctuations over the chrono and will prob cause the reg to freeze solid making it inoperable until it thaws. Seen this on Ion's and Vibes. Why oh why do SP say to run these on Co2!

Get rid of the Co2. Get air. Oh, and read my Ion 101 in the techroom sticky.
