whoever told you BT Omegas shoot @ 270mph is talking utter bollocks. At that speed, it is not only dangerous but pretty sure it's also illegal unless you hold a gun license (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paintball#United_Kingdom)

270mph = 396fps (http://www.calculateme.com/Speed/FeetperSecond/ToMilesperHour.htm)

All paintball guns are shot @ a maximum of 300fps (approx 204mph).

If you are concerned about range and/or accuracy, just make sure you get a decent barrel along with decent paint to match. Consider underboring or overboring too. Failing that, just use an Apex2 barrel in the woods.

The Proto Rail is more suited for tournament paintball but can be used in the woods. A BT omega is only designed for milsim woodsball. It's upto you whether you want to try out both types of paintball or just stick to the one. Personally, I'd get an Planet Eclipse Etha as it's a decent tournie marker that can also be retro-fitted with a milsim kit to make it resemble a "real-life" miltary rifle. Whatever floats your boat.

The speed at which paintballs are shot out of the marker is controlled by the regulator attached to the marker. As previously mentioned, this is limited to 300fps max for safety reasons. You will be chronoed at the start of each game to ensure that you are shooting under 300fps.

Hi mate,

I am new also, so welcome to the forum i guess :)

I dont know much about the bt omega but i would think that whoever gave you that information would have meant 270 feet per second? Also the bt is a milsim/scenario marker which is mechanical i think and would have less rate of fire compared to the Proto orr other tourey markers. I have a 2011 Proto Rail and it is a nice marker, when i play and train it has to be chronographed to record the speed of the paintball. This can be adjusted by messing with the regulator and im sure how to change the setting will vary from marker to marker. Mine fires at 280fps due to field rules but i have seen in as high as 310fps on the chrono, it will probably get higher but i think 280-300fps is the standard limit at most sites in the uk.

Hopefully that helped, if not there are far more qualified people than me on here haha ;)

if it's this package that you are referring to:

http://www.fatbobspaintball.co.uk/Gun_Package_Deals/c362/p2390/Proto_2012_Rail_Ready_to_play_kit_-_Black/product_info.html

then I will tell you now that you will not be happy with it. The reason being that the supplied hopper (Proto Primo) is gravity-fed and not able to keep up with the rate of fire of a Proto Rail. You will need a motorized force-feeding hopper (Halo/Prophecy/Rotor to name a few) to do so. The steel bottle is also heavier than carbon-fibre wrapped variants but at the same time cheaper, which is probably why it's included in the package. If overall weight of your marker setup is not an issue for you then you'll be fine with the steel bottle.

The proto rail is a decent starting choice of a marker.

Hopper wise, I'd personally invest in a DYE rotor. At retail, it sells for around £140-£155. On these forums, they usually go for around the £80-£100 mark. It's the best of the best and will have no trouble feeding the proto rail. If this is priced outside of your budget, then I'd go with an Empire Prophecy which is much cheaper than a rotor but performs just as well.

Bottle wise, I like Guerrilla bottles as they are arguably the lightest carbon-fibre wrapped bottles available in the UK. I personally use a 0.8L Guerrilla. Heck, any fibre-wrapped bottle is better than the standard steel air tank.

I agree with ashers on the package dude! Sorry!

I bought my rail and used it once with the steely tank and primo hopper.....then bought a dye rotor and a carbon wrap tank haha

If you are serious about paintball, I would take time to invest in good kit to start then you won't have to waste money and gather loads of kit you don't use, as a noob that's what I have been told and it is definitely true! And buy a good mask first
