Sending marker to the states for some custom work.

I'm going to be sending out one of my marker to the states for custom work to be done.
What im worried about is when i have my marker returned to me. Which is the best way for this without customs giving me grief on the return shipping or if they charge me import tax for which is already mine.

If you have had experience or know the best way for this, would be grateful for any input.

You just need to keep a copy of your proof of posting and the receipt from when you bought it.

If they fill in the paperwork for sending it back to you correctly,Customs should not even bother to open it.

Never seen a receipt for any of the markers ive had over the years.
Could be a problem ?

Any forms to fill out for outbound journey ?

Call Customs. Tell them that you are sending some parts to america for alteration, they should be able to help you out with some sort of tracking number or other paperwork etc.

Got hit with a customs charge for my marker's return from the US.

Lessons learnt:

1). Declare at a lower value at own risk. If it gets lost, you can only claim what the declaration value was. On the other hand, custom charge is calculated by VAT @ 17.5% x X value declared on form so....

2). Use USPS global priority international (GPI) or 3rd party courier (FedEx/UPS/DHL) for return shipping. USPS's express mail international (which i chose on this occasion) is classed as an EMS service. Any EMS service is subject to tax. In my case, Customs calculated my fee based on declared value + EMS postage. GPI is classified as a regualr airmail service and therefore exempt from taxation. 3rd party courier have their own customs protocol.

3). Parcelforce charge a ludicrous £13.50 admin fee on top of any customs charges incurred. A**holes.

In short, I have to pay an additional £23 for my marker to be released from customs and delivered to me by Parcelforce.
