Make sure your buying from someone reputable.

Exchange addresses, telephone numbers, mobile numbers etc.

Use a third party to act as a broker if you are unsure.

Pick it up in person.

No 100% guarentees though. I've dealt with hundreds of people on the forums etc and only ever had one problem, which was rectified for me a little while after the event :)

Fortunately with such a relatively small community, everyone knows everyone else by one or two degrees of separation. Most established posters here have some real-life presence, so there is less anonymity. Sorry to say it, but post-count carries some weight in it too, someone with only a few posts (and maybe all of them being in the classifieds) doesn’t really have any identity, so to speak, so has less to lose by ripping you off. Someone with several hundred is probably well known enough not to rip you off.

Things to look out for though, are requesting payment through Western Union, which is notorious for scammers as they have dodgy policy on fraud. Pictures that look like they were taken for a shop or have been stolen from picture threads can maybe give you a reason to think twice, too.

What are you thinking of buying mate and who from?
Post count is a good indication, tho not perfect...take me for example...I have the 10th highest post count on here...but, there aren't very many people on here who have met me in person.

However...that didnt stop Paintball budgie, from having a marker sent to me, by the guy who was selling it, for me to put some bits on..and have it for like 2 months, coz PB went on holiday!!

Likewise...he also sent a dynasty shocker(£600), to a friend of mine, who doesnt even use the forums, for him to see if he liked it, before he paid for it!!

Thats the sort of trusting place this is.

If you wanted a third party, I would do it mate, but not really neccessary if your buying from one of the regulars in here.

Get a Paypal account if you can, as that can make things easier.

Still, caution is seldom foolish.

He seems to look alright, and he's been a member since 2002. I'm sure one of the old timers on here would have known if he was a serial conartist.

Speak to him on the phone buddy see what he sounds like, and if you think he's a shady character spend an extra 20 quid on petrol picking it up with a m8 of yours.

I went and picked up my marker I bought off the classifieds, met the guy and now I'm going campaign with him at the weekend. Might make a paintball buddy while your getting it, plus he can show you how to use/fix it!
