buy the best that you can get. vert feeds are now the more popular kind so easier to move on if you decide to get rid of it.
depends on ur budget as well. u should be able to pick up an evo x or the like for about the 300 to 450 mark depending on its age.

The problems would be a long list but to be fair that is true of most all older markers. the cocker I own I did the same as you have been advised, that is gas it up and fired it a few times it worked and didn't leak the next thing I did was throw it at a gunsmith and said do it all, replace what needs it and tweak what you can...it came back awesome ..the only trouble mechanically I had with it was it somehow turned itself 180 degrees timing wise so it fired on the release ???? but was fixed there and then 'cos the tech who did the work was at the tourny I was playing. The list of things to do to it are again very long but trigger job is normally the first followed by newer front end components (not steering you towards one maker over another that is your choice) oh and of course a replacement barrel, electric hopper etc but then the list gets long and longer...mainly due to the length of time cockers have been around pretty much evry maker has "performance" parts for them

i am bit busy at mo so i aint read the other posts but if it was said sorry!:(

Look over the body for scratches and dents. You want it as sexy as possible cause it is going to battle with your girlfriend 2 b center of attention.

Next gas it up stick it next 2 your ear and check all around for leaks. Any hisses and dont hand over any money till he has it sorted.

Now take some shots see how you like it. "its the marker that chooses the player , not the player who chooses the marker"

When all has sorted try and pay as little as possible so you have enough money for any parts you want to put on/in or paint 2 put through it.

Hope you find what your looking for.

Couple of pieces of advice...

Find out how old the sear is and if it is more than a year or so buy a spare, so when it goes (first your acuracy will go all over the shop, I really mean WAY OFF, then the timing will continue to slip despite adjutment, then you know its gone) you'll have a spare (I highly recommend a Bellsales Ball-Race or roller sear or whatever they call it, in fact fit that one and keep the old one as a spare...)

If the 3-way is a short one then getting a blade (or similar hinge) frame will be about £50, maybe including fitting and will maye a helluva difference to it.

If its on CO2, make sure it has (or get) an anti-syphon tube, that way your reg won't go phutt.

Expect to have to have a fair bit of work done (try and take it to someone close by, rather than having to keep posting it...)

E-mail me offlist and I'll send you some good cocker tech-sites

Like Mark says, whatever you get, get it serviced as soon as possible. they can advise on cheaper non cosmetic upgrades that will improve performance by a lot.

Most people on the board are honest and won't sell you crap. I have never had any complaints and never had any complaints about markers I have sold. Vertical feed cockers are more expenseive than right hand feed, but you do get a better price. Don't feed balls faster than right hand feed but thats what is in vogue at present. If you are playing rec ball being able to site down the barrel might be more advantageous. Hence right hand feed might be a cheaper and more suitable option.

Check out the sticky thread at top of classifieds, there are paintballers who have bought from other paintballers and names to look out for.

Most important, buy a marker you can afford and still afford to play with. Make sure your local site will allow you to use your own kit. ( Waste of money else). At the end of the day if you can afford it and want it, its your money. Enjoy it.
