What is it with tournament scores being privy only to those who play the tournament?

During each tourney, p8 and other sites are alive with posts asking for the latest score situation. Granted, some other sites post some form of scoring (e.g. .gifs of snaps of the scoreboard taken by a friend's cell phone) but IMO the organisers need to get their heads out of their 1990's mindsets (I almost typed "butts") and do something about some form of reliable and timely scoring updates to their website.

Any credible sport does this - I can find out the latest details on a college hockey gig for example, no problem. And don't tell me the technology isn't there, or it's too complex, or too expensive - all you need is a laptop, a phone and off you go. In fact you pretty much just need a phone...

I guess it all comes down to sheer laziness in my opinion...but at the end of the day it is a dumb idea not to put this stuff up online because otherwise all this TV hoo-ha isn't going to happen - nobody is going to try to follow a team if they need to be at the actual tournament location to see how they are doing. Newspapers aren't going to send anyone to a location because for most sports, they syndicate the info, therefore you lose a publicity stream by default.

Maybe the fact that tourney attendees constitute a very high %age of those who want to know the situation is the situation - in which case, this says a lot for expanding paintball to the masses.

If I was younger, and/or had the time, I'd set up business syndicating this stuff. Pretty easy to get 100% coverage since major tournaments don't overlap date-wise. I might even get ahead of the program and stick an RSS feed on my site. Perhaps someone will make some $$$ out of this concept - if so, I do accept paypal :)
