Well, in my limited experience, they're generally a 'good versus evil' type of thing- rebel alliance against evil empire sort of thing. The SWAT big game was Cambrian rebels against European government forces (I think- don't sue me if I'm wrong!!), the last Warped Sports Big Game was Colombian forces against drug gangs, and the first Warped Big Game was... erm, I forget!

Basically, it's a day-long shoot-fest, with incidental 'missions' such as capture an opposing leader, or seize a bunker, or locate and snatch an item; points are awarded according to the success of these missions. These points are counted up at the end of the day, and one team is the winner!

All I can say is, you must go to at least one, and you'll like the 'massed assault' tactics, or you won't. Best place to look is on this forum.

Incidentally, there's one in Kidderminster in a fortnight, but you might be too late to book; try www.ukpsf.co.uk for details.

Cheers mate. I work for an Airsoft site in Berkshire thats just getting into paintball and we put on a big two day Airsoft game with missions and lots of shooting, something we could do for paintball without to much hassle. But would there be a market for in in these parts?

Trooper,

speaking from some experience air-softers have a very different mentality to paintballers. What works for one doesn't necessarily translate well for the other....

My advice is if you already know airsoft then try and get to something like Staar Waars and you'll probably notice some big differences between this and an airsoft scenario.

Thanks for the reply Hatts.

i think your right, i really should try and get to a paintball big game and have a look. We get loads of paintballers and ex-paintballers play at the site, thats where the idea comes from.

This was the scenario we used at the airsoft big game.......

The following communication is a mission brief from EG CENT-COMM relating to the operation and sub-missions that will be forming Eurogame 2003 - The Battle for Khalistan.

Ground:
The mission will take place on the outskirts and border areas of Al-Selman, Capital City of Khalistan. Areas of Grebratovian and Tamastav control and significance will be specifically targeted.

Situation:
Since the break up of the former USSR Khalistan has existed in a state of political and civil uncertainty. The two main ethnic groups of the country, the Grebratovians (who occupy the east) and the Tamastavs (who occupy the west) have jointly ruled the country since the Soviet withdrawal and managed to maintain a somewhat unstable and often volatile government. Over recent years there have been many skirmishes and small scale attacks by the paramilitary organisations of both sides. These were sporadic and low key as neither the Grebratovians nor the Tamastavs wished to appear the aggressor in the eyes of the watching world for fear of losing the support of their powerful allies.

The recent mysterious death of one of the Tamastavi political leaders caused a rift between the two sides - a rift that caused major civil disturbance.
The Tamastavs accused the Grebratovians of orchestrating an assassination to force a government shake-up, a shake-up that the Tamastavs believed would lose them power and influence. The Grebratovians accused the Tamastavs of assassinating the Minister themselves - making it appear that the Grebratovians did it, in order to portray them as xenophobic and terroristic in their intentions.
Khalistan’s Ministry of State Security (jointly headed by Tamastav and Grebratovian Ministers) decided to dissolve parliament and implement martial law in an effort to clamp down on the increasingly high levels of lawlessness in many parts of the country.

The Ministry of State Security agreed to the presence of a Swedish Commission to assist the two sides to reach a mutually beneficial resolution to this situation. At a summit facilitated by the Chief Swedish Commissioner and attended by the Leaders of both ethnic groups it was decided to partition Khalistan and form two new countries, Grebratia and Tamastan. Loose borders and resource distribution were politically agreed but neither side wished to loose the Capital city, Al-Selman and its surrounding area.

Both the Tamastavs and the Grebratovians have strong allies from both the west and east as the area has vast natural deposits of high grade Uranium - a resource that is becoming increasingly difficult to find, a resource that the major powers of both east and west require. Both the Grebratovians and the Tamastavs have requested assistance from their allies to help protect their current land holdings and take control of the capital and surrounding areas. Their allies believe that providing this assistance would help greatly in their claims for Uranium mining rights. Whilst this would not be openly admitted, the supportive nations decided to supply funding for mercenary troops and have also deployed small units of deniable operatives to assist the forces of the Grebratovians and Tamastavs. It is known that US, EU and CIS Special Forces are currently in Khalistan. This has been done covertly to avoid any political difficulties between the US, EU and the CIS.

In return for their support each side’s allies have been provisionally granted permission to build military bases in the new countries once separation has been successfully completed. These bases are highly desirable and of strategic significance to CIS, EU or US military.

Mission:
The battle for Khalistan: Take control of the capital and border areas and secure resources for your own side.

Execution:
You are to achieve your overall mission brief by successfully completing a number of assignments and sub-missions throughout the duration of the campaign. You will be assigned to a Command & Control structure and must follow this to achieve co-ordinated mission success. Both Grebratovian and Tamastav Forces will follow the same structure:

Officer Commanding (OC) - rank sim Major
Second in Command (2 i/c) - rank sim Lieutenant
Squadron Sergeant Major (SSM) - rank sim Warrant Officer class 2
Section Commander (SC) - rank sim Corporal

The OC will retain overall command of your teams mission objectives and, with assistance from his staff (the 2 i/c and the SSM) will make strategic decisions that will impact upon the outcome of any given mission. The Section Commanders will be assigned teams of 8 or 10 troops and these teams will be deployed to achieve the missions. You will be given your missions and subplots via this chain of command. If your Forces are to win the overall mission it is vital that you carry out your designated objectives as given by this Command Structure.

Current Intelligence shows your missions are likely to include, amongst others:

1 Equipment retrieval, capture and demolition
2 Capture or defence of mission objectives and key points
3 Co-ordination of Services and Support
4 Insertion and extraction
5 Escape and evasion
6 Mercenary and Informant recruitment and liaison
7 Both Aggressive and Defensive patrolling
8 Combat Search & Rescue (C-SAR)
9 Neutralisation of enemy human assets "wet work"

Service and Support:
The following (amongst others) can be provided, either directly or through the use of liaison officers:
1 Mercenaries (Combatants and Specialists)
2 Airstrikes and extractions
3 Intel reports
4 Black Marketeers
5 Each team will be assigned an Intelligence Officer (Marshal) based at each safezone.

Command and Signals:
Your Command Structure Staff will be communicating frequently via radio to relay orders and intelligence. In addition PA announcements will be made (via a Marshal’s radio) at key points on the site at mission critical points. Your Intelligence Officer will be in full possession of latest status reports. All Troops with the exception of the Command Structure are advised to use their radios for receiving only. Do not transmit on the designated channel if you are not within or covering for any person part of the Command Structure. Communication will be instrumental in a co-ordinated and successful mission and it vital that your Command Structure is in control and able to communicate and co-ordinate it's strategies. Basic maps of the site will be available and it is your responsibility to plot any other useful information (your Command Structure Staff will brief you).

Prior to the campaign you may receive further communications from EG CENT-COM................. and other organisations!

Message ends.

so anyway guys, get your heads in the game and book your tickets now!

Bloody hell...

Erm, yeah, basically that could be used as a paintball scenario game, but it seems a little complicated re command chain and comms/signals. The airsofters I know would deffo go for this, but they're more 'militarily minded', shall we say, whereas most paintballers who'd go to a scenario game in the UK are teams or members of teams who play tourney fields and wouldn't necessarily want to be so regimented in these command structures, cos they just want to play p-ball in the woods!

Personally speaking, if this scenario game came up next year, I'd think about going, cos the SWAT big game was broadly similar to this layout, and that was good fun, if undersubscribed.

Do players want to play this sort of thing, though? I don't know.
All I can suggest is, you post a few drafts around the forums, regarding a potential scenario game you're running, and see how much interest you get. I'll play anywhere within 120 miles of Stoke...

Don't think I'm 'pigeon-holing' UK p-ballers, cos I don't intend to, OK? It's just what I think...

Ask me after the Star Wars big game - it'll be my first true scenario game!

Gut instinct tells me that such 'super elaborate' scenarios wouldn't be necessary for me to have a good time (110KG of paintballs and a 60,000 psi dive tank would do it, natch!), but hey - who knows?

HTH,

Well, I'm convinced.

Hey dude that scenario sounds great! Okay, the structure is complicated and thus the only downside would be that i think you're trying to run before you can walk. I don't mean that in a derogatory way, it's just that there are only a few big events a year like this for UK paintball, and more elaborate, niche games ideas should really be introduced 'down the road' a bit.

Though you will find that you will make an absolute killing if you start hosting big events such as this because of the fact that re-ballers are crying out for more big games in the "paintball market" and this gap just hasn't been filled unlike the USA ... yet. All i can say is that if you advertise you game well (ie on the UKPSF website) then the interest created will be phenomenal, and you will be doing the paintballers of the UK a genuine service! :)

Tell you what Trooper, this smacks muchly of urban / semi urban paintball - have you thought yet where such a game might be held?

The 'suspension of disbelief' necessary to carry an elaborate scenario through won't survive running around in the woods imagining that trees are command and control buildings....

Many years ago I played a couple of big games at Marsworth Airbase - an interesting mix of buildings of all shapes and sizes, perhaps something like that might meet the need? Also there was an old hospital big game site down near Liphook - again great fun, but probably buried under blocks of flats by now.

Just a thought, hth.
