scenario games

Frustration.

This is the only word that can describe the ... unfairness ... of those damned (but lovely) yanks who seem to organise an excellent scenario game each day . How many do you think we get in the UK each year? well you could probably count them with one hand - yes i know warped sportz put in loads of effort etc. which is really hugely appreciated, but why can't more paintball operators open maybe just one Big Game a year on their site. Everyone knows that attendance would be high and that breaking even woulldn't be a problem or anything. In my view, this is what the sport needs to really get off the ground properly.

Guess I'm just crawling on my bare knees on broken paintball shells to get my point across here, and i know this isn't a particularly inspiring, wonderfull or excellent thread but I really would be interested to hear anyone else's views.

It's not just a question of breaking even. If a site operator can make a profit of X grand for a weekend and he runs a break even event instead, he is majorly out of pocket.

I like the big games, but from what i have seen they are a lot of work to organise, and as i said above are often not the most profitable use of the site.

2 points to make here:

1)There's quite a difference between scenario and big game paintball. They generally get lumped together because here in the UK they have pretty much coincided so far... Much of the appeal of Kenny's/Staar Warrs/Warped Sports etc lies in the sheer number of people playing. The Wild Geese are hosting a scenario game next year where the player limit will be 80, so not exactly a big game. It will be interesting to see how that game runs!

2)On the subject of profitability, we're in something of a chicken & egg situation in the UK, in that site operators don't yet have a well established model of the regular level of demand. Think about it though, would our American colleagues bother running their own scenario games if they weren't reasonably profitable?

Like many, I'd love to drop everything and make a living in paintball site operations, with a heavy emphasis on scenario games for walkons and teams. However, a strong belief in potential demand for these games does not a business plan make... :D
