If you want to train to be a Samurai...take up "Iaido" and change your life style a whole pooload.
Also, "Flashing Steel" would be a good read along with any, original works on Bushido....Or go along to the training day!

Failing that - get the film with Tom Cruise in it
Well, would give an idea, but really...the Samurai thing, is really in Bushido and of course "Iaido" or "The way of the Sword"...While it is possible, as I have found to some extent, to follow "The way of the sword"...Bushido, I feel, is not something that can be fully explored, in the modern world, which is a shame, but there you go...much can be learned from it..however, it has certain aspects, one would find difficult...for example...while I was sitting on my floor...cleaning and oiling my Shinken, my wifes friend, stepped over the sword, to get past...now, this gives me the right, to seperate her head from her body, for being so rude....but, at least I would get banged up, at worse, the wife would not be amused... :D

"The book of 5 rings" by Miyamoto Musashi, would also offer some light reading...

And that is the problem with being a samurai in the modern west... we are sort of sentimental about the value of life. It is hard to reconcile the need to behead others for infractions of ettiquette and commit sepukku when we are shamed while at the same time getting along with the neighbors and staying out of prison.

Thanks for your suggestions guys - we have now incorporated many of these tactics into our training schedule.

And despite the fact that I think 'The Last Samurai' would've been much better if TC's character had also copped it - if he would like to sponsor us he's very welcome (if you don't ask you don't get!!)

Cheers
