Hunter Thompson was a radical author and reporter who helped pioneer "New Journalism". He also wrote several books, including Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas and The Rum Diary, both of which have been adapted to film. The movie I mentioned above was about him and his reporting on the Richard Nixon campaign trail. I don't agree with most (well, probably all, really) of his views, but he was quite a character to say the least.
