Sold an item and sent out 1st class recorded on 07/05/2009

I always check online using barcode ref to see if items have been delivered. checked ok, but didnt look at the postcode online it was delivered to.

Thinking buyer received item, buyer tonight pm's me they havent recieved item.
checked online to find , yes it has been delivered and sign for , but at a different postcode

Receipt clearly shows the right postcode it should have been sent to.

Anyone had this problem before ? and how to go about it ?

EDIT* funny thing is, online tracking shows its been delivered a few streets away from me too many houses on that road to go knocking on.

Something the opposite happened to me a few months ago.....
When Planet Eclipse posted a Geo propshaft upgrade to me via recorded delivery (as planet always do)and the idiot postman delivered it to a house at the other end of the village whith a totaly different street name and the women who lived at the address thankfully dropped it off at my house said the postman just posted through the letterbox without bothering get a signature.
If the women hadn't been nice enough to drop it off i would never have known anything about it.

yes m8 happened to me last week and there's nothing you can do about it unless you had it insured,1st class recorded is only insured up to £26 i think you can put a claim in but they say its your fault and you will get nothing back from them,just go to the postcode were it was delivered that's what i did and found out they had it,not tell you what happened after

yes m8 happened to me last week and there's nothing you can do about it unless you had it insured,1st class recorded is only insured up to £26 i think you can put a claim in but they say its your fault and you will get nothing back from them,just go to the postcode were it was delivered that's what i did and found out they had it,not tell you what happened after

i think the postcode is only the road mate, not the specific house number

Yeh its happened to me a couple of years ago i order an xbox 360 from ebay i was sent the tracking number by the seller. When i did not receive it i got in touch, the postman said it had been delivered to my address and he had a signature but it was not my name or signature. It also happened a few months ago with a laptop at my work address. I seem to be pretty unlucky but i either got my money back or a replacement. I dont know how the senders got on . Royal Mail you gotta love em

Its not the address of your post office is it?

when i sent an item recorded it had an address which was near me and i was like ? it was said the item was recieved. the address which when i looked closer was the address of my post office !

if the delivery is clearly wrongly delivered there are two things you can consider.

first: comp from RM is (or was?) for 100x the value of a 1st class stamp. if the item delivery postcode does not match the postcode on the reciept then it is their fault. get the form form the PO.

second: if the unintentional recipient has kept the item that is clearly not addressed to them, then it is mail fraud and they are breaking the law to keep the item. if you have the evidence you can contact the police to see what they can do.

i was supposed to recieve a package saturday, wasnt there got the tracking code and it said it was delivered at 9 but i was in and so was my whole family and it said they left a you were out card and they didnt , waited monday, wasnt there, went around my whole street checking if the postman left it with them..nothing. went down tuesday spent a hour trying to sort it, had about 3 people to sort it after she opened the door i spot the package next to a bin and said there it etc, showed them id and then got my parcel. so after 3/4 days of worrying etc it was just a **** postman didnt leave a card out

Very good idea.


At the end of the day postmen/women are only human, and as we all know people get lazy especially in repetetive jobs. The trick is to get friendly with your postman/woman and i guarantee as long as that postman delivers your mail/parcels you'll be ok. They are far better than couriers who to be honest don't give a sh**.

i wonder if the item has been returned to sender which is why it been delivered to a house near your own address ( dont know why its been returned to wrong address!)if an attempt has been made to deliver the packet/item and no one was in due to signature required, a 739 red card should have been posted and 1 week after this attempted delivery all recorded items are automatically returned to sender ie legal documents ect. did you put a return address on your packet this may be the cause of error, and when returned to sender no signature is required and the bar code on the packet will be scanned as delivered even if no one as signed for it, recorded delivery is a cheap postal option but it has limitations
