Hey guys I just picked up a 2k4 Alias Intimidator and I have decided to write a review of the refined marker. First of all Id like to say that I have been shooting Intimidators for 5 years now from classics to rippers, and this is the most awesome version yet. So onto the good stuff.
Trigger
The 2k4 came with the stock Dragon trigger, and with my experience is the second best trigger out there, of course after the techna trigger( a carbon fiber/bearing machine!). Easy to adjust, the same as any intimidator; it includes trigger pull weight, forward, and back travel adjustments. After setting the trigger to a medium length pull with the activation close to the front of the pull, I found it VERY easy to walk the trigger to 16bps or more. It includes a light weight fast response WAS-type microswitch which equals easy high BPS. The trigger guard is not in the way for easy pianoing.
Body
The body is milled to the extreme for major weight reductions. It is also about 1/2 inch shorter than the previous Intimidator bodies. The body also has window milled right through it! The annodizing is very thick and lustrous, it looks great and doesn't scratch easily. The eye covers have also been redesigned to be smaller, lighter, and more aesthetically pleasing. It comes stock with a clamping feed-neck that has become a must have for tournament and rec players alike.
LPR
The LPR has been redesigned to be alot smaller whilst still providing a HUGE resevoir for the valve, allowing for a low pressure operation around 170psi. It recharges very fast to provide excellent shot to shot consistency. I saw the resevoir to be as large as a set of dual-regs with volumizer. Is it easily servicable as it uses the same parts as its predessors.
Bolt
The bolt has been shortened by about 1/2 inch, and it has been milled for the ball detents as well. As you can see the bolt also has not 3 but 4 orings, the new bolt uses 2 rings on the front to create an even tighter seal in the breach when firing a ball. The back of the bolt is Perfectly milled to match the body and it looks really cool. It is an open face high-flow bolt, In my experience better than any aftermarket bolt produced. It allows the most flow and highest FPS of any bolt I have tested.
Ram/End Cap
A new bumperless design. It seems to be faster and smoother. Honestly I cant really tell the difference. It does not, however, have an adjustable ram cap. You will probably see an aftermarktet one soon!
Frenyzy(Bobs New Board)
All I can say is WOW. I thought I would never-ever want to trade my was board in but this chip is awesome. Fully adjustable in every way (debounce, dwell, eye mode, Ball In place delay, Ram delay, etc.) It is larger than a WAS board, and looks more complicated to un install but the features and ease of use overpower the WAS. It seemed to shoot a little faster as well. It was super-easy to hit 16-19 BPS with paint. In dry firing mode is was hella easy to hit 16. The menus are alot easier to navigate with the new button configuration as well. When turning the gun on with the single push of the On/Off button the board loads in about 3 seconds after telling you the battery voltage which is very important. The programming is very easy and accessing the menus is done by holding buttons 1 and 2. Changing eye modes was very fast and easy to do for dry-firing. One must mention the superb eye logic this chip has. The eyes cannot be turned off unless fully clogged with paint, as in with the old WAS board the eye would defualt off after three unsucessful trigger events. The Frenzy in forced mode cannot be turned off unless done through the menus. The result is a much more reliable FORCED eye mode.
Grip Frame
The grip frame is very well engineered. It comes apart just like a normal clamshell, and is very light as well. The 2k4 also came stock with the Empire grip panels. I thought I would never use anything but my hogue pistol grips but these were really comfortable with the gripframe. The frame is also moved forward about 1 inch compared to the clamshell. It also has a subtle snatch grip integrated into it, which was very comfortable. The grip frame felt much more balanced compared to the clamshell as the loader sits closer to the center of the gun.
Conclusions
This marker is definitely as improvement over the 2k3 models, all of them, Storm, Dragon, Ironman, Ripper etc. It is refined in many ways that not only make it shoot faster, have a smaller profile, shorter body, but also make it significantly lighter as well. It looks awesome, shoots consistently over the chrono (292, 293,292, 290), and is very light. Tournament players will fall in love with this marker as it is very fast. It rivals the new DM4 which makes shooting 19bps easy as well. At about $1800.oo Canadian, this marker is worth every penny, as its fast, easy to use, doesnt chop paint, looks awesome, easliy servicable, and did I mention fast? It comes in many color combinations such as: black, black/blue fade, black w/ blue accesories, black w/red accesories, and black red fade.
