Reloader Cone

I have just upgraded my second hand Halo to a reloader with a new board and ripdrive....however when i try to screw the retaining screw in for the cone it stops the cone from turning as it is clamping it against the catch cup (ie the cone is bottoming out)

if i let the screw off 1/4 turn it then works ok and spins freely, but as the cone stops and starts the screw is working itself loose to the point where the cone moves too freely and releases the tension on the spring

What am i doing wrong?? i have checked 3 times that i have assembled the rip drive correctly. The only thing i can think of now is to lock tight the retaining screw into place a 1/4 turn less that fully tighten

any other suggestions please woudl be helpful

Is it a shocktech alloy cone by any chance? I had the same problem with one of those.

I never really bothered to try and sort the problem (sold it), but looking at it the cone was too tall and as such the screw would bed down onto the cone itself (stopping it moving) instead of the metal post it is supposed to.

I would guess filing down the top of the cone so that more of the metal post is exposed for the retaining screw bed down onto would be one idea, or put loctite on the screw to retain it a few turns out so it doesn't come undone if you get me?

Hope that helps...

Sounds like your drivecone isn't "loaded"

everytime you take off your drivecone it unloads the spring - there is a knack to reloading it again and everyone has their own way of doing it.

Check out the oddysey website as they have step by step instructions how to load it back up

no its a standard clear plastic cone and it is loading the spring OK

the problem comes that when i tighten the screw it pushs the cone down so hard that it bottoms out on the blue plastic cup and prevents it from moving, even when using your fingers

as i said if i let it off 1/4 turn it then spins ok by finger or by motor, but each time the cone stops spinning the spring forces it on a little bit ( as it is designed to) and the screw unwinds itself a little to the point where it is so loose that the springs can unload itself

It sounds like the little e-clip which holds the little plastic cup with the spring in it up isn't on right.

If you are using a shocktech RIP, I've found that the shaft is slightly too long and you might need to use an oring or a spacer between the shells and the RIP to stop the shaft from jiggering about.

sorted it now

the shaft was too far down in the catch cup. pushed it up a bit and screwed everything together and it is all working ok
