Regs, should they be tested.

I was in my local scuba shop today getting my dive tanks filled, and the customer in front of me was getting his diving reg tested.
It seem sensible enough that a regulator that gives you stable air pressure, and allows you to breathe under water, should be regularly tested.

Obviously our regs don't supply breathing air, and we don't rely on them to breathe. But should our regs be tested at least within the same time frame as the bottles.

dont see why not. out of interest, id *like* to know my rregs performing well.
a mate of mine got dirt in his reg, it ****ed it up and was spewinng out over 1000psi if i recall. almost blew a solenoid, in fact dunno how it didnt (was on a smart parts marker)

this is my thinking:

Every bottle should be tested with its reg every 1-2 years, then after testing, the company that tests them (or officated person i.e. people like you tom), put something like those hologram sticker's which overlaps the reg and bottle, to show the bottle and reg have not been split (those stickers that come with cloths etc to show there offical, and they have passed....with renewed colours like car tax)

that why, you dont get every joe muggins swapping round regs and bottles

thats my thinking, it may be late and my spelling my be fuddled up.

can see one fault in that thinking.... guy/gal goes out and buys brand new l/p reg for his/her bottle fits it themselves ( which isnt hard after all) then swaps between the 2 for different markers that they have.
no sticker and at least 1 of the regs is brand new.

does the dive shop test the dive regs themselves? is it certified like bottles are. if our regs got tested is there a standard to test them to?
how long can a reg last if its looked after?

You test your bottles reg every time you air up your marker. If it was underperforming, you would get shootdown. If it wasn't sealing up you would get blown macro line as happened to me when some gook got under the o-rings in my crossfire and wouldn't allow it to seal properly. Don't really see the need for any kind of regulation. As far as I know, tank incidents are so few and far between as to be statistically insignificant and I haven't heard of one where the actual tank, not user-error, was at fault. Seems like a needless cost to me.

The dive shop in our area that we use for dive tank fills and bottle testing ask for the reg to be included as they check them over for us too.

I think its a good idea, we get our markers serviced and overhauled so why shouldn't we get the regs checked.

Given the same reasoning, you'd also test your bottle every time you fill it.

Bit of a flaw there.
