Ok I FINALLY got myself an ion (thanks to Eclipse) and decided to go for a Pure Energy 3000psi (48CU) bottle.

The 2nd time I tried to remove the bottle from my ASA I noticed that the actual top of the reg was turning rather that the thread into my ASA! For those of you who own these bottles you'll see that there's the black part of the reg (with the gauge) attached straight to the bottle and then another silver valve on top of that (goes into the ASA), is that supposed to be unscrewing like that? (I'm assuming it was unscrewing because it was turning) - scared that I'm gonna have to run 10 miles to get my bottle back from a field somewhere, LOL

I ended up having to grip the actual silver part right at the top to twist it off the gun.

it shouldnt twist off the reg mate , you should be able to turn the actul bottle and the whole tank and reg will come off you asa not leaving any bits behind

so to fixthis
drain all the air if it has any in unscrew the grub screws on the silver bit on the top of the tank then unscrew that,
now clean it and put it back on witha a small bit of locktle if you want then screw in the grub screws with loctite on them and all shall be swell

Mine did exacly the same. I took it back to Eclipse and they swapped it for a brand new one. So if Eclipse isn't too far of a trek try and take it back.

If it does still have air in I think you are soposed to take out the macro-line so the air comes out there, don't let it seap out the bottle by unscrewing the reg slightly.
