Greeting everyone...
I am hoping I might strike a cord with some old school paintballers out there with this post. I have put this in the Newbie section as I am thinking of coming back to paintballing after a long break of about 12 years!
When I was into the sport(?) I was a regular at Reddish Indoor Paintball near stockport in Cheshire. To give you some idea of how the game has moved on since then, the site gun was a 10 shot splatmaster pistol which had mini co2 canisters you loaded into the pistol grip. To top things off, each time you fired a shot you had to push in the stiff firing mechanism at the back. The site itself I found to be brilliant as a youngster... being indoors it was dark with lots of wooden buildings to hide and crawl arround in. In addition there was a resident alien (called hornhead) which used a hi powered tipman 98, which at the time was a £400 very rare semi auto, and believe me when the scary music came on the loud speaker system, people bricked it.
After playing for a few months I decided to take the plunge and bought myself my first marker, a Mahem Merlin pump action with 7oz Co2. This also had a nice silencer and hopper and was quite a jump up from the 10 shot pistol. After using that gun for about year I upgraded to what was at the time one of the best pump actions around, a Sterling Silver STP with bottom line. This was in Anodised red with a silver aluminum silencer and a 12oz C02 tank and looked the nuts and I played for a further year or two at both Reddish and then Worsley outdoor paintball which was a large woodland site. I sold my Sterling a few year back which I now regret (it was a classic lol).
Over the years I have done paintballing on the odd occasion for work doo's and birthdays, with site gun being semi of some sort, quite suprising much less accurate than what I remember my Sterling or Merlin to be .
Anyway.. still being based in the North West (Warrington to be precise) I am wondering what good sites are around here for walk on's and by 'good' I mean large playing areas. In addition, I am not sure where to start in terms of getting a marker. My friend who is also interested in starting paintball up with me is liking to the Tipman-A5 for it's upgradeability. I might go the same route, but was wondering which semi's offer good reliability and accuracy .
Last of all I'd like to have a go at tournament paintball as I reckon I'd be up to task if there are any teams recruiting round here. Saying that, when I look at speedballing on youtube in the USA, the game looks a lot different from the more casual game I played many years ago.
Thanks for reading folks....
