Recurring Injuries?

It seems whenever I play now the rotator cuff in my shoulder flares up for the next week or so - making it painful to do every day tasks. I take painkillers and anti-inflammatory tablets and it seems to do the trick most of the time though...

I know you're all a bunch of malformed weirdos or semi-ancients who should know better, so my question is;

Anyone else got any annoying injuries?

I think paintball makes people age a lot quicker...

It's all the pies.

left ankle - broke it about 12 years ago while in between 1st and 2nd year at uni - still lpays up now and again.

right knee - mate bent it sideways during karate training about 7 years ago - never been the same since.

lower back - weakened muscles on the right hand side (the ones that run diagonally between spine and pelvis areas) - every so often they just give up for a week or so.

Right knee - Snapped all 4 ligament in rugby training, must be 5/6 years ago now (wow) every now and again (like now) it can be very painful to put pressure on it, first time I've had an issue with it since it happened, apart fromn when it's really cold which makes it quite stiff so I have to do lots of stretching to try and loosen it up, when I ref I'm often seen flailing my legs around just to keep the blood pumping through and to stop it seizing up.

Miffs me right off.

my knee gives way on me every now and again, and my leg loses feeling for a lil bit... its an old injury where i smashed the cap and me being the brave soldier i was, i didnt seek medical attention and just hobbled along on it for 4 months or so :( (STUPID MISTAKE)

Brian Simpson - physio therapist in ipswich

He is a specialised sports injury specialist. All my friends that are pro racing drivers use him for any injuries they have, a couple of guys from chelsea FC use him and so do charley boorman and ewan mcgreggor etc.... IMO hes a lil more expensive.. but he is BRILLIANT :p and he understands the fact you need your body for slightly more... obscure sports!

The problem is usually when you damage joints. Bones and muscles mend near enough completely, but ligaments never really recover their elasticity.

YT-69 is right you should never ignore an injury or medical advice, it's not macho it's just stupid. And if you have a recurring injury you should consult a sports injury therapist, because if it keeps coming back then it hasn't healed properly in the first place. OK in many cases it will be a case of "just live with it" but much of the time treatment or a period of rest will sort it out forever, and they can give you good advice on how to prevent it flaring up and how to reduce the recovery period when it does.

I know it's annoying having to pay out for a consultation and maybe stop play for maybe months, but surely better that than permenent damage which is what a lot of people risk by ignoring it - pain is there for a good reason, telling you there is damage!
