I have far to much time on my hands at the moment, and started thinking.......oh my head hurts!!!

On average, how much money does a "punter" or "recballer" spend a month. And how many times does he/she play??

I played approx 3 times over a 6 month period and spent about a total of £50 each time. Then went over to tournyball.

Need some answers from site's...just a average/approx type thing, not any trade secrets!!

I got an idea.....

No such thing as an "average" rental customer Gary!

I've seen - on the same day, same group booking, playing the same games - one customer using 200 paint over the whole day & still having some left in their loader at the end, and their mate shooting well over 1000 paint. You get people coming back every month playing with anyone they can get to come along, some coming regularly once a year as an annual outing for the same group of people. You get kids who play 4 times in 8 weeks then not again until it's birthday/Xmas time & they have more presents to use up on paintball. You get people who shoot very little paint but spend a small fortune on paint & smoke grenades. You get company "do"s where the bill is picked up by the management & the whole group shoot 1200 each, or you get a youth group or school where some of them can only afford a single pot of paint. Then add into the mix full or half day players (and I've seen afternoon only customers still shoot over 800 paint!).

So workiung out an "average" is nigh on impossible!:D

If they are paying site rates.......... once every time they save up enough to play. Thing is, after players become 'regulars' they tend to find out about walk ons and stuff. Not many pay rental prices regularly.

I still want to do this 'inter site customer tourney' air ball and tourney paint prices. But, surprise, surprise, no-one has gotten back to me.
Allready have two 'novice teams with site kit' coming up from Chester...... hoping to run one early december.
But apparently, so far, no one can manage to find five punters who'd be up for it. :)
Which is wierd, as I got five teams first time I askes :)

Thanks for the answers. JD my idea was something like yours.

It seems to me that everyone knows about paintball, and the image that brings to everyones mind is "recball" running around the woods in camo. This is what you do on a paintball site.

Word of mouth, seems to bring people back time and time again, bringing repeat customers. This right??

Now I know its fun, cause thats where most of us started.

But has any site operator ran supair along side woods ball?? and if so how did the "punters" like it??

Keep with me....

WDP at Bassetts pole had a small sup air field just behind the base camp now changed to a timber speed ball type field. Customers seem to like it because it's fast but they somehow seem lost because it's different to the woodland

Take the number of paintballs you bought last year for the site and divide it by the number of customers you had and that will give you the average number of balls per player. I think that is what he meant
On the flip-side - if you don't know the avarage balls your players shoot how do your order your paint for the weekend?

Just trying to help you out sister.

Not my problem Missy - I just turn up to help run the day & someone else brings all the stuff we need :D

I got the impression that those kind of figures weren't quite what Gary was after anyway (but could have been mistaken, I often am!), but the stuff in the original post about "how much PER MONTH" and "how many times does he/she play" takes us right away from the typical rental customer as they are more likely to be 1/2/3 times a year at the most. Gary seemed to be looking at the rental addict, a very different type of animal to a typical customer.

Anyway - think I'm going to give someone free info or advice without knowing the reason why? Been in this sport FAR too long for that :D :p

OK Then lets see if I can explain.

Seems like everyone knows about paintball, and most people will actually come back more than once. So this is repeat buisness.

So why not make more repeat buisness???

Idea is quite simple, just like me.....

Any site worth its salt has kept records, with people's names etc..

Do a mail shot with any customers who have been more than 3 times, asking them if they are interested in coming along and playing a "tournament" style day. If they can find 4 friends they get a discount, if not the site will sort out the teams on the day.

The aim is to find as many 5 man teams as poss. and run a limited paint tourny type event, with prizes!!

Work out the cost needed to cover the event, and add a bit.

But the magic bit is, if you can convince them to play each month, you have secured a monthley income.

If a couple of site's who are local to each other, they could play against each other.

Play on supair, and you could even get local tourney teams to help coach and advise..

What you think??

The object is twofold...first to change the public's perception of paintball, and secondly to boost site profits.

The Site we train on uses Sup Air as its main game field and the punters love it. I marshall for the guys who run it and have had everyone from stag do's to hen party's and everything in between, the feedback was to say the least very positive..

The punters always ask to play the Marshalls as the last game which usually ends up with them getting mashed big style, but we've never had a complaint and they just walk off laughing and saying how awesome the tourney markers are..

but if you have teams of 5 people comming once a month to play tourney at you site they're bound to want new stuff and get in to proper tourney playing, and leave you with gaps to fill with new punters and are there enough to keep filling those gaps. Marty Carrot : what markers do you let them use.
