Yesterday was a laugh guys, thanks to the teams that were there, Ecstacy, Jags, Jolt, Storm, Breathe and others. The day was awesome, really fast in your face balling.
When i first arrived at the field, and saw what we were to be playing on, i dont mind admitting that i thought that the day was going to be a waste of time. The field was incredibly small. I have a feeling that everyone felt the same at the start of the day.
HOWEVER, and this is a big HOWEVER the field when played was superb, it was fast, furious and awesome. The games lasted between 5 seconds and thirty seconds largely, with players doing run throughs off the break. The play was so fast that often people used only 20 balls a game, i cant think of many peopl ethat actually had to pot up during the day. The organisation was brilliant, games were sefl marshalled, and there was NO cheating, no pushing the rules, it was superb. The toilet facilities were good, it was warm, and the scores were displayed on a board for all to see.
The surface of the field was sand and woodchip, and this did cause a few problems, as when you tried to push off hard, most of the time you fell over, and cleared the sand and woodchips away hitting the concrete with your knees........which hurt. But with a few more inches, the surface would be great.
All in all, the organisers were great, kept the players informed at all times, and the day was a success.
I would recommend that anyone in the area get down there as often as you can, as the layout of the field will develop players gun skills faster than anything alse you can do. Team training would be great, and teams will quickly see the benefits of playing the fields.
Vicki and co, great job.
