I dont mean to spark a massive argument like girls wearing padding etc.. :p

BUT

Isn't ramping kinda killing the skill from the game?dont get me wrong, i love my mini and the way it can fly some serious paint but if i cant pull the trigger 30 times a second, but old matey on the other team can... well... thats my piss poor luck isnt it?

Similar to GT racing, they've found a way to make people that aren't very good still keep with the experienced drivers... not that you guys are probably racing geeks like me :p

just 'they' are killing any advantage of having a skill in every sport now!

or am i not seeing a certain angle to ramping?

Here is a lesson in history for you.

Electronic markers came before ramping, as that is simply the advancement of technology.
But, with that came the ability of persons to modify their markers, electronically, so that they could fire very fast, but could not be detected.

Cheats, in a word.

It was decided that "assisted" modes of fire would be allowed.

So, ramping modes were caped at 15bps, in an effort to spot or deter these cheats.

It is quite easy to detect a marker that is doing 20 or 25 BPS, compared to others doing 15.

Also, no human can fire a marker at 30bps without the assistance of either bouncing or assisted modes, it simply isn't possible.

Staying warm on a sunday!
because twidling your fingers like a kid who's eaten 20 packs of sherbert is a world wide recognised skill!

there has been a lot of talk about this when it was first introduced.

i feel its made people concentrate on the more important things in the game rather than the usual sound of people in the staging area showing how small their johnson is by twidling their fingers at girlfriend pleasing speed.

heh thanks for the history lesson, i understand the whole sort of.. "you can cheat... but only a certain amount" thing....

now a lesson in GT's for you guys... 2 good drivers in a GT car (cos 2 guys race one car, they do a pit stop and a driver change half way through) have a penalty if racing against 2 bad drivers... so nigel mansell and damon hill would have a MASSIVE penalty if me and my girlfriend decided to go toe to toe on the track with them... to make it 'fair'...

thats a really long way of saying, i prefer paintball, it makes more sense!

it just confused me when we were arguing about it the other nite :)

with ramping now reduced to 12/13 bps depending on the tourney then it really removes little skill from the game, as that is the average rates people can fire at in semi.

yeh, i dont agree with that either... to be fair, if i am better at something than someone, i would wanna CRUSH em... rather than perhaps get beaten by them! lol

dont get me wrong i could see the amusement in say, the Ironmen going up against me and the romans and they all had pump actions, or at least mechs! but not for a tourney :p

The idea of a handycap, is to average your score out and make you challenge yourself.

It also helps to get people into competitions. If you want to offer prize money, that comes from entrants, if all the entrants think, there is now way I am going to beat any of those 10 players/teams/drivers, then they won't enter and your competition is off as you will have no prize fund, hence you make no money, get no exposure for your sponsors.

Ramping and BPS caps are not teh same. They are there to stop cheats and people getting fooked up.
