The 2000 LCD had the old style battery in it, most people replaced these with nickel metal hydride type.

But dont worry it's easy to tell if the LCD has a switch to turn it on as opposed to a removable tab to turn it on then you can use an IR3 charger

You're quite right, but it will still charge the nicad battery, albeit at a faster rate.
