I was thinking (yes, thinking) last night about paintball alot, again...and I was just wondering, do you lot like the advent of Airball and the way the whole thing is going? Or did you prefer it when it was like the old days, when Mayhem was a gathering of about 10 teams (or something), and played in the woods?

I can't apreciate the change-over from woods to concept, cuz I pretty much landed in the new era about 3 years ago.

hmmmm?

Dude, Mayhem Masters used to get 60 10-man teams with a waiting list of another 20 waiting to get in...the Ironmen, All As, Palm Beach Preds etc. all came over to try an' win the thing, and Bobby managed to take the trophy back home back in, oooh, 96, maybe 97.

And none of you Euros have managed to win in the States...although some might say that the UK Preds did in fact win tha World Cup. Even though they didn't...dark goings on off-field an stuff.

Peace

I welcomed the change.
It got rid of what was wrong with competitive paintball in the woods, i.e. unfair advantages because of asymetrical fields.
The first time I walked onto an air field I thought COOL!!!! This looks weird.
It played like a wet dream. No more annoying twigs snagging your paint, nice to watch from the sidelines, hell, it wasn't even possible to watch in the old days.
Also, I can now safely run into a bunker, and not hurt myself! Which happened a lot, I have to admit....(still do, but all I do now is just unearth a couple of pegs, instead of breaking stuff....)
Fast paced games, it rules..........all hail Laurent Hamet!!!!!

First started playing tournies in the woods.
I agree, the change has been a good thing. Woods games needed a separate level of skills, ie field craft, and cat and mouse tactics to win

Concept is fun, short hard games, full of action, it rocks!

I remember 10 man games in the woods with a game time of 30 minutes, christ, you could have a doze and still win.

3 man tournies in the woods were fun, ie 3 x 3 man teams starting from different positions on he field, you collected arm bands of the people you shot. Excellent training. Thanks to Rafe for that one!

I still prefer the woods. I admit that I'm a traditionalist, and I like a good woods field. I like to feel real dirt under my feet. I like to slide into real twigs. I like to stalk along real woods.

That being said, if paintball does go to an all arena format, you're gonna have ti fight me off for slos on the team. I've played in front of an audience before, and had the euphoria of being cheered on and cheered for. (I'm still tryign to get the video from Skyball '98) There's something ot be said for it.

But if paintball goes 100% air fields, we're going ot lose something in the game. We lose our heritage.
