Question about filling your C02 bottles

After my previous questions about buying my own 'big bottle' I did exactly that and signed up for an account.
I got some kitchen scales and proceeded to start filling my 20 oz bottles. The first 6-8 oz just zooms into the 20 oz bottle and then it really slows down. Worryingly so, I only then put in about 10oz for fear something is wrong. How long does it take to put in say 14-16 oz normally?

Thanks
Alex

What's the 'BAR' of the 'big bottle'? it'll be stamped on the shoulder.

Are you chilling your 20oz bottle down? The bottle you're filling (the 20 oz) needs to be colder than the bottle you're filling from. To chill the bottle, drain the remaining co2 out of it via the fill rig (wear gloves or you'll get frost burns) and you'll see condensation or frost form on the outside of the 20 oz. You're doing this with the shed door open, right? It only takes an extra 15% of co2 in the air to asphyxiate you.

From a full 50 bar 'K-size, or LK size' a 20 oz bottle will take appx 6-10 seconds to fill if the bottle is chilled down. The time taken to fill your 20 oz will get longer the more times you fill it as the pressure in the 'big bottle' will drop. You should get 50 good fills off a K-size at least. You CAN'T fill co2 accurately by time, only by weight.

Frosty's point is a good one. I assume you've got a syphon co2 'big bottle' and that you've using it in an upright position? You'll know if it's got a syphon fitted because it will say 'liquid withdrawal' somewhere on the label. Unlike air, which you can lay flat on the ground to fill, you can't do this with a co2 k-size as you will probably be syphoning gas instead of liquid...which is bad, m'kay??

EDIT: Oops soz, this is Gups here, Dan left himself logged in on my pc..he hasn't gone all technical all of a sudden ;) lol!!

PS Do you like the Krispy Kreme pics...all my own work, Soz Dan ;)

easy way to tell a liquid offtake bottle, there's a 1" wide white line painted on the bottle from the bottom of the bottle to the top.
