PSP - NPPL split: What does it mean?

Okay so by now everyone will have read the new release from the NPPL confirming that the split is (at this time) permanent between themselves and PSP.

Personally I'm interested to know what this means for major tournaments in the States from here on ...

> Do people think that NPPL & PSP are going to go head to head to compete for playing dates?
> What does this mean for events (sponsorship wise) - when advertising dollars for major companies are so tight?
> Will team sponsors have a significant input into where their teams play (by example the quote from Chris LaSoya about Avalanche playing where JT say to play, etc)

Interested in thoughts and comments from all - but especially those that have been around a bit longer and are a bit more influential in the sport (example Robbo, Jerry Braun, etc ....)

Maybe not exact dates, but near as dammit

If NPPL does have TV its options for outside industry deals widen considerably...the pball industry will probably support both initially and then go where the players and media go

Yep - they already do.

Crystal Balls and all that !!

Events obviously indicate that there will be tendencies for a divergence in the tournament scene.
The fracture will be along industry lines for sure if and when it happens and it will be a 7-man formatted series with the focus of its tournaments on providing a good quality event, with the promotion of paintball as a sport at its core and the welfare of the player as a main consideration.
Let's face it, Vegas was a disaster in many ways, not least of which was what the players and teams got for their money and it's timing could not have been better if you were Chuck Hendsch and in that sense, the promoters group just played straight into the hands of the disenfranchised NPPL.
But the timing is not yet right for the moves to be made in any practical sense.
Moves are being made but these are theoretical and speculative at the moment but I believe there will be something significant happening in the near future.
Basically, within a year, I think there is a need for another series to evolve Stateside.
Just my opinion

Watch the pro teams

and see where they go. Rumors have already started and if they prove to be close to correct the pro split could be nearly 50/50. If that happens it'll be a toss up for a lot of teams not heavily hooked up but for those teams with serious sponsorship commitments it could get real ugly if different sponsors are in different camps. As for the backers (industry, etc.) this is just open warfare where it used to be more covert.
After Vegas if NPPL carries over the points earned so far and more or less promises an uninterrupted 2002 series I think they'll get the lion's share. (and didn't Chuck's statement say there would be an announcement on May 17 and isn't that statement likely to be dates and city for their event?)
On the 7-man 10-man thing I'm less sure than I was before how that'll break down cause in the short term NPPL needs to provide continuity and changing formats mid series ain't the way to do it. (Though I agree completely 7-man is coming--see the do-it-yourself conspiracy theory thread--plug, shameless self promotion)
Just my opinion but what the hell do I know and when did I know it?

Well, playing guessing games (that is IF teams don't do both - if a date clash doesn't preclude that, obviously)

NPPL
Dynasty
Avalanche
Tontons
Strange
Rage
Bob's Men

PSP
GZ
Shock
All Americans
SC Ironmen

Who's most popular team on the ciruit - Lanche.
Who's the toughest - tricky, but ya gotta say you'd back the top list over tha bottom
So where do others go, all other things being equal? NPPL

But what about tha World Cup - Jer's got huge pull there...

What's the betting the NPPL and Millennium don't get into bed together in some way...but what do I know? I'm gonna be a movie star so I don't really care anyway!

peace

Big mistake by PSP,

I don't know what PSP are thinking, but two things are for sure.
The players will benefit because the split reaps competition between the NPPL and PSP and he, who puts together the best venue will win in the long run because the competiton will be in both sides and opportunity will open for new teams to step up to their so desired dream of playing in the pro bracket. PSP has an advantage because they are far better organized but if Chuck Hendsh manages to organize the venue with the right sponsors right out of the box, then the future for PSP is certain and the venue will fade away with time other for than the World Cup event for which Jerry will find his way to pay to reintegrate the event if allowed to the NPPL series.

I am taking up dominoes for my new hobby until this gets sorted out :) See ya next year in one of the two seasons.

I'd make only one change to your list, Maestro, and a couple of additions (since you started playing the name game...)
Move Strange to PSP list and add Lockout and Bad Company to NPPL list.
Strictly a guess.
