Here’s the info as it comes in:

Tournaments will begin Wednesday and finish Sundays.

No more 10-Man, only X-Ball and 5-man.

X-Ball (D1,F2,D3) will take place wednesday, thursday, friday and saturday. The NXL will take place on all five days.

Teams that play X-Ball will have the possibility of playing 5-man. If one team is eliminated thursday, it will be able to start playing 5-man on Friday.

If the team loses on Friday, then it should really be disbanded. No, just kidding, it will have another chance to register on the board Saturday. Fun isn’t it?

I wonder why they are going for such long events - if you attend 5 PSP events then that's 15 school/work days - and that's not including a day's travel at either end of the tournament, so potentially 25 days off to play Paintball.

American companies aren't notoriously generous with their holiday entitlement...

The time crunch is strictly an Xball factor. I would imagine this is the PSP's present answer to the limitation to how many games can be played per day per field. The alternative is more fields, more refs, more expense to the PSP. Running XBall isn't anything close to as efficient in cycling teams through the comeptition as current 7-man with 7 minute games.

I understand the whys, but I think it will make up a lot of players minds as to which league they're going to play in, as many simply will not be able to justify the time.

Well....

.... if the PSP was a little bit clever, they would limit entry into the various divisions, so that each division could be held in 3 days maximum.

They might even do promotion and relegation between the divisions from event to event, to give teams something to strive for ;)

And all the "rest" could then play 5-man, where a win would naturally means you got free entry to the bottom X-Ball Division at the next event (bottom teams in the lowest X-Ball division being relegated to 5-man).

We players LOVE the anarchy of our sport, where we can play whereever and whenever..... but from a promoter standpoint it is stupid, which the NPPL has realised a while ago.

Unfortunately, the whole concept of promotion and relegation, is not one that goes down well in the US..... when looking at any other US sport.

I think that this will kill them

Well the money is in the teams still. What are you going to do to the five man enterance fees? They must be raising them. The have to recover the money from somewhere. They should have climbed on the coat tails and put in 7-man. This would give them the teams that could not travel to all the NPPLs plus it would give teams the ability to practice for the 7-man NPPL events. This would give them more money to fund the rest of the events. 10-man teams are not going to break up and play 5-man, they will just move on to the NPPL.
X-ball is a lose lose for the promoters. The costs to set up a single field are over $16,000. How do you raise the money to pay for it if you can only get thru 9 games a day on a single field. They need the 5 man and 10-man teams.
World Cup had 64 ten man teams which paid $144,000 in enterance fees. If they all played 5 man and then left and never played 10 man, where do you make up those kinds of numbers?

X-ball issue

So they say in the release that if your team loses in x-ball you can join the 5-man. How do they expect teams to come up with the enterance fee for that on the spot. Our team lost in X-ball so lets go and pay another $1400 (thats if the prices stay the same)so we can put two 5 man teams in the event.
Unless of course the team can't afford to put 2 teams in so they put one team in and try and rotate however many players they have when they can only roster 7 on a team.

Think about it.
