PSP goes to flat rate entry

All classes of competition pay the same price. No graduated fees based on level of play.
Only fee adjustment is time sensitive. The sooner after registration is open you pay the cheaper it is. (Only exception is eliminated Xball teams can enter 5-man at a discounted entry fee and play their full pre-lim schedule on one day, Saturday.)

$2,350 is a big step from $800 if you want to play the X-Ball format though.

And, if your 5 Man team that can only play on Saturday, it's $1,000. But if you can play Friday and Saturday, you only have to pay $800.

Not too confusing, is it?

No doubt somebody suggested it before us but Brockdorf and I were advocating that approach more than 2 years ago. :p

PBC--X-ball price looks to be about the same, if not the same, as last year.
You also forgot to mention that eliminated X-ball teams pay $500. It seems relatively obvious to me that the PSP isn't encouraging Saturday only registration unless you're an eliminated X-ball squad in order to keep the logistics as simple as possible. All the "last minute" entries can't be scheduled until the last minute and the more teams that are accomodated the more complex the scheduling issues.

Actually, they were $2,250 last year. I was referring to the difference between the $800 for 5 Man and the $2,350 for X-Ball...which is $1,550. Big jump from one format to the other.

And, yes, X-Ball teams can pay an additional $500 to play in the 5 Man if they lose...but that would bring it up to $2,750 that they've paid. If I just lost $2,350 I don't think I'd shell out another $500 to potentially lose that too...

Well, that's one way to look at it. Another is to see what the price break is between PSP 5-man and NPPL 7-man for essentially the same game but with 2 extra players. :)

What they are shelling out for is the opportunity to compete and win. Most teams don't. If losing games strikes you as the same thing as leaving your wallet in a cab or something then tourney ball is probably not where you want to be spending your money.:D

5-man gets a max of 40 minutes of game time in pre-lims. 7-man a max of 56 minutes in pre-lims. Xball a minimum of 64 minutes. In fact a full 50% of all teams competing at Xball get at least 128 minutes of game time.

Well...

You do realize that PSP had flat rate entry all of last year, right? I think it may even have been flat rate since the split, but I don't remember 2003 for sure.

As for $800 vs. $1,000.....

PSP is able to accomodate some teams who only want to play on Saturday. Obviously, given the choice between having to get there on Friday or having to get there on Saturday, pretty much everyone would want to only play Saturday. But there's only so much space for Saturday-only teams, so PSP has to do something to get some teams to play Friday as well....

.... like charge more for the Saturday session. Then if you're really desperate to play Saturday-only (school, work, whatever) you can.

And $800 vs. $2350 -

Most 5-man teams have 5-6 players. Most X-Ball teams have 15-18 players. I don't see why triple the entry for triple the players is surprising? The big step up isn't the entry fee, the big step up is getting 10 more players. If you've got 10 more players, the entry fee has taken care of itself.

Are you saying all classes of 5-man and 10-man last year were all the same entry? Could be, I suppose, but doesn't sound right. Either way, I only noticed this year 'cus there was some mention of it on their website. Guess Keely's got lots of work to do. :)

That's exactly what I'm saying.

And yes, Keeley has a lot of work to do, but I'm hearing some great things about changes for LA.
