"This email is just to let you know that due to the number of teams, preliminaries for 5-man will be played on Saturday only. If you have not yet paid your entry fee, you may do so at the event until Friday evening and still be added to the schedule.

Taken from pb2x.com

10 Man Paintball died at the end of 2004, 5 Man seems to follow at the end of the year, due to the PSP forcing X-Ball™.

Long live 7 Man and X-Ball™.

I think 5man will do ok. It's easier to organize 5 people rather than 7 for 7man or 12-15 for Xball.

Unlike 10man, 5man doesn't necessarily cost the psp any additional money b/c they play 5man on the Xball fields. 10man required its own fields and more refs than 5man will. It also gives those smaller teams a chance to give national events a try after the NPPL has had their maximum number of local rookie teams sign up :D

Seems that if they're letting people sign up until Friday they're trying to let as many 5-man teams play as possible.

But, no matter what PSP does, X-Ball will get more attention than 5-man. Cause it's X-Ball.

Why do you think that the 88 teams on the NPPL waiting list who have little or no hope of getting into the event didn't sign up for X-ball or 5 man, seeing as its better and all, and what the players prefer etc....

oh, and if your first game was at 11, and it was 10.40 and you had not yet been allowed onto the parking lot, what would you think about that? (info taken from my mate who just got to park his car in Pomona.)

intheno,

Since you're obviously no where near the event, and if you are you're sitting the NPPL's office in HB, it's tough for you to make a real assesment as to why the gates didn't open till 11.

Ever think it was the Fairplex's fault? I'm sure if it was in the PSP's hands they would have opened a friggin gate an hour earlier.

Can't wait till the rain is blamed on Lane and Jerry too.

I didn't make an assesment Dave, I stated a fact. I didn't say who's fault it was either. The doors didn't open because of the horses. That does not lay blame at the PSP's feet at all, but nor does it take away the fact thats what happened. You don't think its a big deal? Just say so.
You don't think I should post information like this in a forum? Why not Dave? Do you think it is biased towards the NPPL to point out that players in Pomona weren't allowed to park until 10.30 with the first game scheduled at 11. Where, exactly is the bias in that statement, so long as it is fact? Help me out here.

And no, I am not going to the event until tomorrow, and no, I am not sitting in the NPPL's office and nor do I work for the NPPL either. If I did I certainly wouldn't post here about either series.

Are you at the event Dave?

Isn't the first game scheduled at 11:30? That's what it says on the rosters....

Did PSP run around forfeiting matches because the gates opened late? If not, what's the big deal?

Inthe;

Nope, I'm not there, it's the first major event I've missed in 6 years, maybe that's why I'm pissy, I dunno.

But since I was at Pomona the last 2 years I could have told everybody not to show up till 10:00 am, as could have anybody else with a bit of sense, instead there are pics of fools standing around the gates at 8 am so they can get the good staging areas... WTF??? Staging areas?? It's X Ball, you have 2 options on each field and it's my experience that they ain't very different at all.

You didn't directly make an assesment, but anybody with a bit of reading comprehension can pick up what you're putting down.

I apologize for ripping into you, but when I see web sites report problems that exist because of things that are out of anybody's hands like it's a huge deal I'm baffled.
