The epidemic of illegal markers is spreading more and more all over the paintball scene and has given rise to a lot of discussion and debate. As Pete Robinson pointed out so aptly in the March issue of PGI, this is an issue that must be got under control or it could do us in, probably at the cost of human suffering.

By illegal markers I mean those which very definitely shoot beyond the semi-automatic mode under playing conditions. Some markers are known to be able to enhance the ROF well beyond one-shot per trigger cycle. Some are also known to effectively increase the velocity beyond what is allowed and what is safe.

I don't need to go into a long spiel about the consequences of the above. That has already been covered quite a bit and doesn't require much imagination.

I propose that the leaders of our sport get together with the intention of working out some concrete solutions to curtail this dangerous trend, before some outside authority does or we lose our beloved pastime.

I suggest that a meeting be set up in connection with the 7-man World Cup in Toulouse, since many key people usually attend that event.

I propose that some or all of the following people attend:

Aaron Stephens & Brian Frank - PMI/Evil
Adam Stocks - Millennium
Ant Jones - PGI
Billy and/or Adam Gardner - Smart Parts and Philly Americans
Bob Long - Intimidator and Oakland Assassins
Chuck Hendsch - NPPL Super 7
David Youngblood - Dye
Ed Poorman - Warped Sports and Avalanche
Egi - DM4 Designer
Ged Green - Pure Promotions and WDP
Jack Wood/Steve Monks - Planet Eclipse
Jerry Braun – PSP, NY Xtreme and Paintball Sports International
John Rice/Jon Green - Angel inventors WDP
Joern Windler - Millennium Rules Commissioner
Lane Wright - PSP
Laurent Hamet - Millennium Series, Facefull and Adrenaline Games
Magued Idris - Joy Division, NPPL PRO ref
Mike Bogolub - NXL PRO ref
Mike Ratko - NXL
Morten Jensen - Racegun
Nathan Greenman - Brass Eagle
Niall Squire - Millennium Series
Nick Truter - Planet Eclipse
Nick Brockdorff - Copenhagen Ducks
Niklas Agréus - Stockholm Ignition
Pete Robinson - PGI and Nexus
Renick Miller - PMI and Aftershock
Rich Telford - Team Excessive
Richmond Italia - Procaps and X Ball founder
Rob Staudinger - Trauma - The Matrix Center
Robert "Rosie" Rose - PSP and NY Xtreme
Rodney Squire - Dynasty
Simon Stephens - Halo inventor
Sonny Lopez - WGP

And any other key person/paintball thinker that would be appropriate. (Any obvious name left out is purely unintentional.)

Let's give it a shot.

Not trying to put a damper on things Wad, but waaaaaaaaay too many people; not practical, too many to accomplish anything and, most importantly, most of them are wholly unecessary to tha process. Ever held a meeting with that many people round a table? More importantly, ever seen a table that big?

At least 25 of those people should come off straight away - and that's being generous.

Point well taken, TJ.

I'm also trying to be a little realistic about the possibility of all those people participating. We would be doing great if we could get a fourth of all those people.

Maybe someone could help and suggest who should be the primary participants. I feel that we should somehow have a combination of technical expertise and broad coverage of the various segments in the PB world (i.e. players, teams, marker manufacturers, after-market distributors, league people and rule makers).

Steve

OK, here's my go...

Point of meeting: Attempt to control existing/potential gun problems in the major leagues.

Necessary people:

A rep from each major gun manufacturer

Two reps from each major series - the league owner/chairman and tha head of tha rules committee/head judge.

There is no players union ergo no player representative.

**** journos - their job is to report on legislation and comment upon it, not make it

There ya go!

if you can get all these guys together in the same room steve, then the UN has a little job in the middle east for you to solve next...

I think you're more likely to have representitives for some of these people, and i see EXL captains there, but no real representation of 7 man, (you're still the rules dude for 7 man right?)

The point is, you're trying to do something about this Steve, it's about time. I don't expect this avenue to follow thru on this subject, but it does hilight who needs to be involved in the solution to this problem.

You could add, that if the gun manufacturers don't attend (this includes aftermarket gun manufacturers too) that their markers will be excluded from the list of legal kit for next season. If the series has the balls to enforce this of course. If the series dosn't back you on this, dosn't feel that it's a big enough problem to piss a bunch of 'sponsors' off over, then it's a losing battle in my opinion...

Good luck Steve, i support any thing that will improve the sport, as to many other simple ballers out here in tourney land...

Thanks for the moral support, Colin.:)

I listed Joern Windler who is Millennium's rules commissioner. His primary focus is 7-player.

Steve

How's this...

National Paintball Supply -1 rep
Smart Parts - 1 rep
WDP - 1 rep
Ad infinitum for relevant gun manufacturers

Millennium - 2 reps (owner/chairman/whatever and head judge/rules guy)
PSP - ditto
NPPL - ditto

Invite tha companies/leagues - let them choose who they want to reprsent themselves.

And I reiterate, no players - no-one will be an agreed rep across the teams/leagues so they just muddy the waters.
