Ok...peeps have got a little confused i see.
A world cup event like Sephiroth suggested was run at the Pittsburg IAO at the end of 2002. This 'Nations Cup' was the premier of the XBall format and 8 teams took part, Canada, France, Germany, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, England and the USA. Richmond Italia (creator of XBall and the event) chose prominent individuals from each country and set them the task of putting together a team to enter the event. Robbo was chosen to lead England and went about a series of try-outs across the country to put together a squad that mixed promising rookies and some old hands from Kelly's and Banzai. Bob Long was the captain of the US and selected players from Avalanche, Dynasty, SC Ironmen and many others. The event was a big success, with the final match being USA vs Russia. The USA won 16 to 6 and were crowned world champions
Aftewards Robbo decided to evolve the England team into what we now know as Nexus. Some players couldn't join due to commitments with other teams so more young blood were recruited.
After a great deal of wrangling and arguments over what should be done with XBall between the various leagues it was decided that the Nations Cup would continue throughout 2003 as an addition to the Millennium events. The teams from Pittsburg did not all remain, with Team Strange becoming the USA team (with occasional additions) and a real pick and mix of teams coming together to replace Nexus as team England. Over the course of the year at Millennium events Nations Cup XBall matches were run in the evening. The championship was run as a league over the year which culminated in the finals at the Campaign Cup. In the end Sweden won, not the USA. USA were due to play Russia for 3rd/4th place play-off but USA (aka Strange) were too shagged out after a weekend of 7man to play the XBall as well.
I think that is about it....... any more questions?
Woo, my 1000th post, hopefully it's not total BS.
