why don’t we round up all the best ballers in each country
and play a series of events where the teams are actually named themselves after the country that they are based in.
so its like football England V Germany ect

an event so big and rare might actually get on TV :D

just a thought.. what do you lot think ?

Ok...peeps have got a little confused i see.

A world cup event like Sephiroth suggested was run at the Pittsburg IAO at the end of 2002. This 'Nations Cup' was the premier of the XBall format and 8 teams took part, Canada, France, Germany, Portugal, Russia, Sweden, England and the USA. Richmond Italia (creator of XBall and the event) chose prominent individuals from each country and set them the task of putting together a team to enter the event. Robbo was chosen to lead England and went about a series of try-outs across the country to put together a squad that mixed promising rookies and some old hands from Kelly's and Banzai. Bob Long was the captain of the US and selected players from Avalanche, Dynasty, SC Ironmen and many others. The event was a big success, with the final match being USA vs Russia. The USA won 16 to 6 and were crowned world champions

Aftewards Robbo decided to evolve the England team into what we now know as Nexus. Some players couldn't join due to commitments with other teams so more young blood were recruited.

After a great deal of wrangling and arguments over what should be done with XBall between the various leagues it was decided that the Nations Cup would continue throughout 2003 as an addition to the Millennium events. The teams from Pittsburg did not all remain, with Team Strange becoming the USA team (with occasional additions) and a real pick and mix of teams coming together to replace Nexus as team England. Over the course of the year at Millennium events Nations Cup XBall matches were run in the evening. The championship was run as a league over the year which culminated in the finals at the Campaign Cup. In the end Sweden won, not the USA. USA were due to play Russia for 3rd/4th place play-off but USA (aka Strange) were too shagged out after a weekend of 7man to play the XBall as well.

I think that is about it....... any more questions?

Woo, my 1000th post, hopefully it's not total BS.

maybe...but ultimately pointless. Aside from England and the USA, most of the other countries don't really have enough TOP teams to warrant such an arrangement. It's pretty much a forgone conclusion who would represent France (Ton Tons), Russia (Legion) etc

Unfortunately Paintball has no universal governing body like FIFA that can organise something like this. Maybe with time something similar will be developed but at the moment the sport is far too sponsor driven to be able to bring teams together in such a way.

This whole EXL winner Vs NXL winner event at the end of this year is another attempt at this idea but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much incentive for teams to take part. Paintball is not established in the mind of the public whereby teams would be willing to take part because of 'national pride'. I think something similar to the first Nation's Cup should be done again though, it was an awesome concept and would be great for TV. But unfortunately with the NPPL/PSP split and the TV contract connotations it would be very difficult to stage.

Potter, you've just been promoted to Junior Executive Auxiliary Fun Police Trainee. (JEAFPT) Anytime I'm on vacation or don't feel like bothering I'll send troublesome forum members to you for answers and advice. You'll manage quite nicely and be far more polite besides. It's a win, win. No need to thank me. Really. :)

I'm not sure if there was anything similar before the original Nation's Cup exhibition event, in Portugal or otherwise. You might be just thinking of last years XBall games played at each of last year's Millennium's (inc Portugal).
