preparing a bottle for air travel?

You don't HAVE to BUT if you can't demonstrate that the tank is empty and the valve is open you will have to remove the reg.

Been there with both types of bottle and been there with D*ckhead check-in staff who have no idea what they are looking at....even had the tanks Okayed and then been called to the front of the plane (1 min to take off !!) to be presented with both of my tanks (removed from locked case's) and forced to remove the burst disks with a rusty old pair of pliers (ground crew tools) if I hadn't done it the bottles were staying in America. So now I take the regs off....and don't say its cos they thought there was drugs in the tanks cos the "rules" change with every shift change at the check-in/security.

I would reccomend taking the regs off if you can like Mark says, it just avoids any problems.

What system go you have? If it's a real problem then the burst disk etc might sufice.

I've got an Armageddon- When I upgraded the bottle I took it to a diveshop to have it taken off, as it just wasn't coming off when I tried it.

Unless theres an easy way to do it, the burst disk will suffice?

Right, I used to have an armie.

Easiest thing to do is take the valve pin out.

Unscrew the bottle off the main reg. If you look at the top of the bottle you'll see a blanking plug around the valve pin. You need a very large flat head screwdriver (or a large hex on much older ones). That unscrews out of the top of the bottle bit. Under that you will find a reg seat, pin and long spring.

Put all the bits in a zip lock bag as you do NOT want to get the seat contaminated and you are good to go. Effectively what you are doing is completley opening the bottle.

Whenever I have been quized I just showed the bits which where taped to the bottle and they knew I understood to keep it open.
