Just been looking at the www.powerlyte.com website, and it looks like u can pick and choose just about everything about the barrel sets on offer - size, inserts, material, etc.

What are the main differences between stuff like Aluminium or Stainless backs?

Are are single-piece barrels gonna be better in the long run or are the seams inside two-piece ones usually good enough to not disrupt the ball as it travels through it?

Weight! in the case of the sceptre, since the insert negates the advantage SS has over Alu.

The beveled end of the sceptres inserts means that it self centres. So no disruption.

SS doesn't scratch as easy as Alu does. So the control bore stays smooth.

Also i've been told SS can be made smoother than Alu, though i don't know how/why this is the case.

Presumably annodised alu won't scratch as easily though (assuming it's possible to get them anodized...)?

I've just thought of another question - which end of the barrel do the inserts fit into? I've noticed that the inserts on both these and the Freaks are shorter than the barrels themselves - doesn't that meant that at least part of the barrel is the wrong size?

if your using a co2 marker then alu is better

It's less effected by the cold stainless tends to shrink when cold and so the bore changes through the game. alu is also effected but to a much smaller degree

yeah as i remember ss shrinks more at a colder temp, ie bad for co2 users (especially if you are drawing liquid) but is smoother i think and generally a LOT heavier

in the old days some markers were set up to run on liquid.....before everyone started using inline regs...the best way to keep a marker concistant was to deliberatly draw liquid....used with very few semis but worked well with pump guns, sterlings worked a treat on liquid...couldnt see what you were shooting tho cos of the cloud of co2!
