playing possum is it cheating or tactics , ive been labeled a cheater for walking one end of a game zone to another making no insinuations that i had been shot ,no hand in the air or gun i walked thru the oposing team without being hit and stuck my barrel in Somones back and saying ... Ur out ..... They then said no they ain't cos i cheated and carried on playing ,so after some words about the rules and with no Marshall in sight then turned round an shot me in the foot and said ur out now ..... And im labeled a cheater now for old school tactic and not allowed to do it as it encourages bonus balling .....

its generally frowned upon and seen as unsportsmanlike, most tournaments a deadmans walk is banned and has been for years along with freight training, i would say if you are going to do it, tell a marshal what you are intending, first so he can say ok its allowed and 2nd so that he can watch what happens.

As above - generally considered unsporting, and banned at tournaments and more formal events. The other team were only not shooting, as they thought you were eliminated, which was your intention.

That said, can be a laugh to do at walkon days and so on, but you WILL get lit up to hell in later games as a result,.

'Dead mans walk' and 'barrel tags' can be emotive

The following thread on UKScenario has gone on for 18 months with someone dropping in an opinion and reopening it every now & then
(I've locked it so its safe to point it out for you)
http://www.ukscenario.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=27180

I fully support barrel tagging (in various forms), but only support DMW to a degree, my opinion may differ according to the situation. I will generally support a player who gets the drop on someone by being a bit sly and hasn't been challenged

Dead mans walk crosses a very fine line. I can't comment on the tournament world but as above it appears to be now against the rules. I would have thought this is a fair tactic (if it seems fine in some opinions to wipe or not be out until the Marshall says so then DMW is a pretty fair tactic) - in a tournament field the game zone is very open and you ought to be able to keep an eye on people, if someone is walking without their hand up and/or you have not heard a team mate count down the opposition then consider them in game and shoot, if you don't and they catch you out then well done to them

In the woods world there could be a long way to walk and it is common to drop your arms whilst still walking. But if you do so you must be prepared to be shot at (or challenged)
You can get DMW but things can probably get heated and in places where the Marshall's may not be around if its a big spread out game

.... Just an addendum on 'freight training' or 'railroading':
This is running through as a group behind each other, the front man takes the hits and because he is running, 'innocently' continues to shoot for a moment then still takes the extra hits until he 'realizes' he is hit and can slow down and peel away
On occasion they may still stay in the front complaining about all the 'bonus balling'

It may be banned at tournaments but I've certainly seen it at scenarios still employed by speedball teams

i cleared it with a Marshall before hand and asked " if i were to walk from one end of the field to another looking sad with my gun down not making an indication ive been shot is tht allowed ?" he said yes that's there mistake.

TBH, The old addage of the "Dead Mans Walk" has kinda gone by the wayside!!
If you have made no indication you are out, i.e no hand on head, then to me you are walking down the field and are live! what difference is it to sprinting down the field with your gun down? Nothing, You could do the conga or the friggin cha cha slide to the other end as long as you don't put your hand on your head!

Dead players are told by refs to put there hands on their heads when eliminated to show the opposition!!! No hand on head, expect to get shot! That's why it really winds me up when people who walk off with their gun in the air, and whinge when they get 10 balls in the back!
Where in the rule book does it say you are showing you are out?? Answer, it doesn't! You could just simply be changing hands or sommat groovy! If you don't have your hand on your head, you are still a live player and you are gunna get paintballs comin your way!

If you can make it, do it! If the other team see a player walking down the field, no hand on head, still within the boundary lines and don't blast the hell out him......I say no more!

It does depend on whose game you are playing
If its scenario then arm in the air, or gun in the air are still recognised and in the player packs / game briefs

But the assumption is correct. If you're not displaying that you are out then anyone is correct to treat you as in and shoot.

If you can walk through without making the dead signal then you've pulled off a move

Would be at discression of marshals Ive done this before a few times, playing capture the flag or assassination with some friends, just walk through look hurt, maybe limp, then sprint back..... wouldnt try it if we were playing against a team as such, but for recreational games cant see why not....
