To get there, first there would have to be an organisation for Paintballers. Just like any other sport. I have mixed emotions about this. One one hand I think it should be possible, after all, fomula one is an expensive sport, and they have their own organisation. On the other hand, I think most people do not posses the intelligence to not associate paintball with war, since we use things that look like real guns. No matter how you look at it, that will always play a major role.

I think it's going to be a case of time. Wait around a few hundred years or so & we might get there!:D

But joking aside, if you bear in mind just how young the sport is I think we're doing OK so far. 10 years ago you would never have had non-playing spectators like we get at some Millenniums, mainly because the woods are sooo inhospitable to spectators & the facilities were appalling. It looks to me like there's more teams every year, & more countries with teams and/or rental sites. More regular walk-on players than ever before. More kit suppliers, & a wider choice of equipment available.
So all in all, I think we are going to get there eventually, just may take a while.

It's funny how every once every couple of months someone starts the same kind of thread - and funnier still, we all jump in to give our 2 cents (myself included :))

I second what Rancid said, and would like to add 2 things - 1) the game needs to speed up (maybe not precisely X-Ball but maybe some kind of bonus for agressive play - score based on time is my idea) and 2) it won't be "super" mainstream until it can pass the "grandmother" test - give your grandma a video and see if she can figure it out or even likes it :)

well,, basically....people at my school have proved....one mate said ' paintball is for the sad people who cant get in the army and think their playing war'

of course...he hasnt seen tounry ball...most people that havent will say this...then i showed some clips and mags to a few mates and they go...wow its alot more organised and bigger than i thought!!! can i go sometime???

also....we need to stop the 'replica' guns....this gives us a bad image cos people think its war games..2 guys at school proved this by saying stuff like...yeah when i start i say stuff like 'death before dishonour' very sad and ruins it

More in keeping with the end of the Whose NPPL thread

I'm more interested in nuts and bolts kind'a things. For example, does William Shatner saying generic pball is fun and a good thing on TV lay a foundation for future growth? It certainly goes some way to counter the negative publicity out there.
What else will legitimize pball in the public's perception?
