In old school 10 man it could be argued that front players were indeed just cannon fodder. many top 10 man teams had 1 or 2 players whose job it was to pretty much get shot up and draw the other teams guns. However in light of 7 man and especialy x ball i think you would be hard pressed to describe front players as 'bait'. In 7 man no one is expendable really and a front player can bust a game wide open with a well timed moved and in x ball the old back player/front player divide has pretty much disapeared. In x ball every1's a front player, or atleast has to have the mindset of front guy, if god hasnt seen fit to build them like one.

I think i read some where, that Dynasty are a team of front players, so yes they are a benifical part of a team but so are backs, and mids.

Front players are the players who most determine where the game will go.

Paintball is very unpredictable. Fronts are the players closest to the opponent (just saying). Those players are the ones who will determine how the opponent defends, they can open angles allowing the rest of the team to approach and pass the 50, they are in the best position to run-through (which breaks most games), and they are the first worry of the opponent for all these reasons.

So, in answer, they are bait, but only because they are legitimatly dangerous.

...and F-B is right, anyone should be able to do that job, as well as insert, anchor, and fill pods. I find that start people up front gets them learning fastest, though.

Front players are important but without good support from the mid/back they are hampered and become useless.
