Old news ;)

SP tried to make out that they had patented all electro markers... but there was too much prior art and as far as I am aware they couldn't enforce their patent.

People often get patents on things that are already done and that are not enforceable.

I think what you found there is another continuation in part which split off from the original patents. SP have had continuations in part reaching grant over the last 2 years or so.

I only skim read it, but didn't see anything new or startling.

How come you were searching patents? Some interesting stuff to find in the world of paintball patents ;)

I will make this quick.....

A patented is when a person or company buys the rights for a idea which they think other manufactures in the same business inviornment might want to take advantage of (in this case electro markers). This is so that the person who thought of the idea first and can prove that it was there idea but does not have the money to back there production of the product or service can then sell the idea onto a much better business who can then make it themselves.

So its to stop ideas being stolen from little people in the big world of Corp Organisations

Well under the claims section #7 where is the electronic switch in the grip (with regards to smart parts products?) or was there a board in the pnu-ventures/smart parts shocker grip?

Must have too much time as well ;)

Got to say that the description seems very general but unless you intend to do something with such a patent, bit pointless even registering the patent.

Kitty look further down the document it is dated Jan 25th 2000

Plus if you look at the references cited, Edelman beat Smart Parts by 2 years but as Manike said it is old news this was from when Smart Parts "tried" to say they had invented electro-markers Angels were about before any Shockers the only downside was that WDP showed cutaway units showing how it all worked, nice to see the trigger was changed, 'cos that little strip of metal was never gonna survive ;)
