Ok well I want to start getting my photoshop skills up and might try with illustrator. What are some good tips to help me?

Layers, layers are your friend, better to have a large file than something you can't change later at will.

Also look at IceFlowStudios vids on youtube, I found them pretty good at giving me a base to work from rather than going in blind

Learning illustrator if you want to get into design is a given

Photoshop = good for image manipulation.

Illustrator = good for logos and graphics to be printed.
