Did they keep track of who the most penalized team/person was? I'd love to see the stats on that. I know there was some controversy over some of the play, but of course it was glazed over in the reports I've read so far. Anyone who was there that can comment.
Without otherwise commenting on quality of reffing some changes need to made in how penalties are assessed. Perhaps something like hockey where a score or scores negate any remaining penalty time as the effects of the penalties seemed to me to have a large impact over a number of "games." Not a huge issue but I think it would help maintain game balance. Also think major penalties should consider game suspensions--for example, unsportsmanlike conduct gets a time penalty that penalizes the team a player for the time assessed but also suspends the offending player for the duration of that match.
If their penalty ended they joined the game - there was a large stand up at the back centre feild directly in front of the sin bin. Sometimes the player joined easily - other times teams set up to shoot the exit of the bin so that as time ran out the player tried to enter the feild and was eliminated straight away!!
In one game the russians beat the French and casually walked the flag in only for a player to come out of the sin bin and nail a couple of Russkies and nearly turn the game.
