Hi,

I'm looking at setting up my own private paintball field, just to play with mates and such.. This would be just a completely private thing with no commercial aspect and no fees with people bringing their own air and paint.

I've bought a sup air field but the guy that owns the field that we want to play in (who also will be playing) has asked what the situation is with insurance? Although we are only playing with friends who will be completely briefed with the safety rules, if one of them gets severely injured through there own fault (taking off there mask for example), would anyone be liable?

The guy thats field we are using will only let us use it if he can have a definite answer so thought you guys would have an idea! He just said he doesn't want to be sued!

Thanks fellas!

Jake.

I think the person that would be liable if insurance wasn't sorted would be the landowner. Best to get insurance sorted.

But what do I know? lol!

Thats what I'm worried about, insurance is a fortune! Would have to call the whole thing off if that was the case.

What do you all do when you have team practices?

go to an already established field. Penkridge, Northern Quarter, NPBA Bassetts Pole to name a few.

What about contacting NPBF (The Paintball Federation)
and getting each of your lads to join them and use the Federation Insurance? I think it works out at £12 each?

Hmm would that cover us?? Thought that was only valid for tournaments etc..?

Good suggestion though! Will look into it! Thanks!

We do the same thing, best advice I can give you is to try the paintball federation or one of the other official bodies to see if it is possible to get a club type policy from one of their brokers or do what we do; you do not have permission to be on the land or to paintball on the land, you are trespassing and you have no single organiser, rather you are just a bunch of like minded individuals coming together by unanimous decision to play. Any one of you can still try a claim against the land owner if you wanted to be complete gits but at least that way it's more difficult to hold one individual liable. This is not a definitive legal precedent, just a researched opinion. Don't always think any insurance policy covers you either, they often have more holes than a Swiss cheese.
The individual £12 insurance is for sanctioned fields

Thats spot on mate! Thanks!

I've got a little plan now that I'll tell the landowner, should cover us :)

I like to think that mates wouldnt claim but you can never be sure cos people that you've known for years can quite easily turn!

Thanks to you both for fast helpful responses!

Happy balling.
