OK, I'm setting up a society for paintball, but i think I'm gunna get a lot of people interested, more than what's needed for a team and they're gunna wanna do woods ball

This is hard to phrase, but those who have a Uni paintball team, did you set it up as a society through your students union which appeals to rec ballers and speed ballers, or as an actual team through your athletic union for specifically speed ballers? Or did you not go through any Union and just say I'm setting up a Uni team, who's up for it? :p

Cheers,

Corpo.

Baby you knows it ;) Get on msn to me and I'll explain how it works down here at UWE, help you find some stuff on your uni's SU page to set you on your way, and give you some advice on how to avoid some of the pitfalls. However, I'm in the middle of a 3000 word essay (yes, I know I'm on a paintball forum) so I will be better equipped to help you out after 2 on friday

us at leeds, found it easier to make a society through the students union, advertise and run trips for your mates and other societies to help make some cash for your society.

This will increase the amount of money you have available and can be used to represent your uni team in tournys.

awesome yeh, you guys sound like you really know whats going on. I really need to know how you guys make the money, what you spend it on etc. I don't really have an amazing business mind, only a drive to get Manchester a paintball society, ridiculous the most popular uni in the UK (not to diss any other uni's) doesn't have a paintball society!!! >:O

Well just speak to your union, they will point you in the right direction on how to setup a society and who to speak to, you may need to get a certain amount of members to keep your society open within the 1st year.

Speak to your local site near manchester on arranging days out to see if they can offer you a bulk deal on entry fee's, say if you bring a coach load of people down, (around 50 people), once you have a price find out how much a coach is to the site. and this into your costs. Maybe add an extra couple of quid to help make some revenue for the society.

Advertise and maybe offer societies cheaper trips if they can provide the people, its an easy way of making up the numbers for a trip.
Our union offers us money if we run a successful give it a go day, you may want to ask about this to see if ur uni do this. This money will help sorting out trips and help make more revenue for your society.

Once you have money coming in, you can spend it on team gear, maybe jerseys, entry fee's, or bulk buying paint for tornaments, this way if you make a team, people only have to worry about entry fee's. This will also count as positive exposure for your society, and may lead to more funds being available for your society.
