Paintball or Porn?

Ok, that title was sort of a tease but there is a tie-in

After the Tampa NPPL I was looking for info on some of the unheralded teams present. First place I looked was profiles at nppl.tv and found almost nothing--apparently most teams aren't interested in self-promotion--but anyway, I tried a few of the links and ended up at a site called Paintballa.com, an online retail outlet connected somehow or other to the team, Ice Men and some field in Cali. That's the background.
The part that's annoying me is that within a couple of days I was receiving email promotions from Paintballa.com. Did I register at the website? Nope. Did I request additional info? Nope. I did absolutely zip except visit their site ONE time.
And to make it even better they close their promos as follows:

Don't'cha just love it? As you might imagine I dropped them a note. "Dear Sirs, you suck"

What I want to know is if anyone else has had a paintball site use similar tactics to spam them. It's the sort of conduct you expect from some sleazoid porn operation but I was kinda surprised to see a PB business doing this. what'dya think?

Did they at least send you pictures of nekid womens?

One reason unheralded teams may have less promotional material out there (in NPPL profile or elsewhere) is that the teams are changing very quickly, for better or worse, with frequent guests, star players poached, and good players broke. Sponsors may promise the world (and even deliver for a few months) only to disappear 3 weeks before Denver.

Gyro--NPPL profile section has maybe a dozen teams total and most aren't big names.

Crazy--the point (besides the one on the top of your head) is the so-called practices exploited by certain types of online businesses. The fact is various suspect gambling operations and others also use similar methods and others that don't even require you "visit" their sites directly or intentionally.

John CleverPants--Doh! I didn't VOLITIONALLY give them my email address--which is precisely the point.

I can see I've wasted my time expecting even a tiny segment of the forum to recognize the issues involved so y'all go ahead and make your lame jokes and enjoy yourselves.

Well did you type any hints of your email address?

Thats possibly because they have spyware on their site and it secretly downloaded itself into your computer??

It then scans your cookies folder looking for the obvious email.

Do a anti-virus sweep or google a decent spyware killer.
Should solve it.

I haven't come across this though.

1--absolutely not
2--of course they do
3--already done and done
4--neither had I until this one

Thanks, Ices, appreciate the practical help but what's annoying me about this is the site's conduct.

Well, you've named and shamed 'em. I was tempted to visit the site to see if they tried to spam me but i'm not that masochistic... I won't knowingly visit their site no so perhaps in a small way you have got your own back. I understand it's not the point you were trying to make but perhaps it might make you feel better? If it doesn't, try taking three deep breaths and then smiling;)
