Have you added meta tags?? Also are all the links on the website relevant i.e are they all paintball related?? if not that decreases your chance of getting on a website. If you dont have meta tags and dont know how to add the go to any webpage on a search engine and go to view>source it should open a notepad file with the html source look for the work meta copy all of that and paste it into your webpage. Edit the meta to match the catagory of your webpage. Upload it all again and voila give it a week or so and you should be on a search engine. :p any problems pm em and ill try to help further.

It all depends.

Most search engines just steal from google, so thats the best one to start with.

Google is a webspider search engine, it searches for keywords in your site content and headings.
Your page heading is the most important thing because that will be the title of the result in google.

When i did a website for a rental paintball site I made sure every heading conatined "Painball" "Manchester" so that it always comes up top if you use them two keywords in your search. It still comes up 2nd :D.

Once you have good page titles it should appear on google soon, but to speed up the process you can submit your site here

There are lots of other search engines, you just have to work out which ones steal from google, which ones require you to submit your url and which are just a rip off.

Most of the big search engines dont bother with meta tags anymore, in fact excessive meta tags or keywords will push you further down the list on google and others I would imagine.

Yeh this is true, meta tags are just a start for smaller search engines. It will take a whiel to get onto the first page of google searches. But is worth the wait just rember you can steal (borrow) tags for pages that actually help out webspiders this are generally included inside meta tags. Ermm they are not essential but do decrease the time it takes ot get on a search engine.

Go to a search engine and type in search engine in the search box, this will give you a list of hundreds, then visit them in turn and find the submit url section often very hidden and fill out the forms...meta tags help but so does doing the manual way, the programs that submit to 100 or whatever number search engine are always being promoted by the magazines that give these programs away (as they can't say thier free programs aren't any good) but they submit to so many mirror search engines it ain't worth it. Be aware that some search engines want to charge for the listing (in fact nearly all do but there often is a free listing section )...just takes a little longer to get listed. My site is listed within the top ten results on all the major search engines but then it depends on how broad a search you put in the box.....if you just put cougars in the box it takes until page 5 to get a result however put cougars and the word paintball and the result changes to the entire 1st page and still appears on the subsequent 3 pages ;) All this was done some time ago by me personally doing what I said above...submitting the url manually.
