this is something that needs to time before it becomes recognised as a true sport which in al honesty it is.

The sport is starting to move forward but like all new sports it takes time to become recognised. At the end of the day it is only over the last few years that paintball has properly started to move away from being played in the woods. Until a clear cut destinction between rec-ball and tournament paintball is made i.e no tournaments being held in the woods we will not be recognised a a true professional sport.

my advise to your mate is to tell him to shut up as he obvioiusly does not know what he's talking about, other than that just shoot him:D

why?

Could one reason be because we dont have a national league system? I'm looking forward the the start of the M25 league which, given time & support, may expand or encourage other regional leagues to start up.

Not really a sport?

Paintball is not officially a sport in the uk. That is a sad, but accurate fact. The reason for this is becuase paintball is not recognised by the sports council. The UKPSF is going through a lengthy (and rediculous) process to appeal against this ruling. Hotpoint is the UKPSF man responsible for (or at least most involved with) the campaign, he is doing everything he can to get paintball recognised as a sport, along with bob sleigh and remote control car racing!

The resons for paintball's continuing non-sport status are total nonsense, self contradictory and IMHO b*******!

Public opinion is another thing, what people at school think is dificult to deal with, paintball's public image is not great, events like Campaign, Toulose (sorry, can't spell that :( ) and the UK University Paintball Championship (not as big as the other two admitadly, but I would say just as important) are doing there level best to change this, but what your mate thinks is dificult to control  If people saw tourney paintball, then they would find it very dificult to call is a "childish game" but alass not that many people go along and watch a tournament.

But what makes people think paintball should not be a sport, ignorance plain and simple

Next time someone says they don't think paintball is a sport, ask them to tell you what they think defines whether it's a sport or not. 9 times out of 10, you can show that it fulfils all of their criteria for being one.
Of course, you always get the ones that say they still don't think it's a sport even when you've proved that it is, but it's usually worth at least trying this method.
Stealthknight - don't think any of the big international games organisations will accept a sport unless it's recognised as such by a few national sports umbrella organisations, e.g. the Sports Council in the UK
