Paintball Gear And Airlines !!! Help Please !!!

This topic has been probably answered a million times, but please bear with me.

Anyways I booked my flight to Greece (from UK) with expedia.com, and I am flying with KLM from Leeds this Saturday. Anyways I thought I’d give a call to KLM that i will be travelling with my paintball gear. After many calls and confusion, expedia finally agreed that they are in charge of taking notes for the query.

I just finished talking with them, and they said that they had issued a Special Request (or something like that) to KLM that i will be bringing my paintball equipment with me (in luggage, not cabin).. And he also said that it does look like KLM won’t let me take my gear with me. KLM has 24hours to decide on the matter, so I will know by tomorrow.

So what happens if they say no? Do I just ignore that, bring my equipment with me and check it in to Leeds check-in counters, saying to them that this bag contains paintball stuff? What if the check-in girls are really uptight and think I am bringing a real gun with me?

Has this happened to anyone before? I.e. airline denying you of bringing your paintball gear with you??

best thing if they say no is to ship it to your self.

But my mum was flying out of stpaul in america and had a hard time, when i was at London Gatwick flying to america in summer, i told them at the front desk and they just told me that they would xray it, they took me and my bagage with them to the xray room and xrayed my bag stuck a security passed sticker on it and said ok, you can leave it with us

I've flown KLM before (al be it prior to 9/11) and they let it through.

The main thing is be confident, talk to the check in staff, explain it's a marker (never use gun) show them PGI that the bottle is detached and empty so no pressure in it.

Also, if you say you've done it before and they will probably want to scan it seperately (usually through the outsize luggage bit) then I bet that whats the check in staff will do anyway, you just kind of "lead" them :)

I have always flown with KLM and I haven never had any problems with them.
The thing is you don't call them!! thats your mistake!!!

just take your gear and go, take a copy of PGI with you.

And empty your bottle.

take care now ;)

On another similar thread to this I remember someone recommending that not only should the bottle be emptied, but the valve be removed to show that it is indeed empty? Can anybody verify/confirm/shoot down this advice? :D

Yeah, remove the valve from the bottle that way they can see that it isn't pressured and that you're not trying to smuggle something in the bottle.

Thanks for the feedback.

I friend of mine told me that he doesnt even tell them that he is carrying paintball stuff with them, and he never had a prob. Anyways i might stick a couple of facefull copies within the bag... dont know if i'll tell 'em or not yet.. i'll c

I really hope they havent noted anything down in my booking(like "trying to bring gun but declined" ..)
I guess i should had never called them in the first place...

thanks
